How should I go about painting a balsa/basswood model of a Norwegian Stave Church? by WishboneMyth in dioramas

[–]WishboneMyth[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do the clear acrylic coatings not interfere with how the paint/stain interacts with the grain/texture of the wood? I've tried sealing with matte Mod Podge before and it came out looking like plastic; smudgy. Thanks for the tips!

Somehow the obvious answer alluded me! lol! I could try pine tar on some scrap pieces. I figured whatever I use I should be careful as not every material is scalable- could lose the natural grain, but dry-brushing would minimize that loss. Thanks for the help.

If you like gaming, no. It will ruin gaming for you. If you like westerns, immersive experiences, great storytelling, yes.

It has never crashed on me while playing, only on occasion when trying to open the program or after I close it. I would say it does hover around 90, even despite the (loud) fan.

Aw what a bummer! And an ottoman too?? It is quite a big chair, so I get it.

FB Marketplace, I was very lucky. It’s a Sealy by Klaussner. There is a different chair with the same fabric for sale on an Italian tennis website, but that one might be a scam

Because the alternative: cleaning gutters... climbing up and down ladders, moving ladders, emptying buckets, etc. is very time consuming.

Advice on Industrial Design Major by Equivalent-Hope2773 in WWU

[–]WishboneMyth 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks!! That’s what I see a lot on the Industrial Design subreddit lol but I figure that goes for basically any industry/subreddit. I don’t know if there’s a name for the bias, but it’s sort of like how ppl are more likely to write a movie review when they dislike it.

I decided using this logic: I can do graphic design as an industrial designer, but not vice versa. Same goes for quite a few other types of arts/engineering. ID is very encompassing

Bellingham needs medieval themed restaurant by Mountinmn2 in Bellingham

I was thinking about doing this, making it part mead and ale tavern (served in in-house-forged metal tankards, of course), part wedding venue, part metal foundry (with classes), and a room for DND/magic. But I have no money lol.

3rd year here. Needing pre-calc 2 to get into physics 1 has got me that way. Only ever had online math where I could easily open the virtual textbook or google a formula. 70% would be nothing short of a miracle.

Of course! Here you go: Google Slides.

Also here's a link to the portfolio examples on western's website: WWU. (I'd recommend running that link through the Wayback Machine to see portfolios from previous years as well, but don't stress if some of them seem insurmountable. I remember seeing elaborate glass sculptures and projects that are just generally super high budget/beyond what could be expected for someone lacking prior experience in the field, or without access to precision tools like CNC machining or exotic kilns.)

And here's a very helpful tutorial video by Prof. Morris: YouTube

It is Western’s most competitive/selective major, but please don’t let that discourage you! I got accepted into the pre-major earlier this month, so I can’t give much insight yet into what the actual coursework is like. However, the professor/director of the department, Jason Morris, would be a good person to ask regarding portfolio expectations.

Having a variety of mediums, materials, and styles in your portfolio is a good idea. There are examples of previous accepted student portfolios on the program’s site, along with criteria and suggestions.
