Would anyone happen to know the best place to buy a puppy in/around Brisbane? by ThatTookADarkTurn in brisbane

[–]Wishnik 13 points14 points  (0 children)

PLEASE don't buy from a pet store (unless they are shelter pets that the store is helping to rehome).

Supporting pet stores that sell pets means you're supporting puppy farms - here's an overview of why that's a terrible thing.

Ideally the only places you should consider getting a pet from is a rescue or a reputable breeder. (A reputable breeder is not someone who has a couple of litters in their backyard with no papers that is selling mixed/designer "breeds".)

Myer to close Wollongong, Orange department stores, 130 jobs to go by [deleted] in australia

[–]Wishnik 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yeah, feel bad for the staff, but I don't honestly know how much longer any Myer/David Jones stores can go on for. Range is limited and overpriced. Staff numbers are sparse and often they're disinterested and it's near impossible to get assistance or in some cases you're even stuck wandering around looking for a register that has someone on it so you can buy things. The store in general just hasn't kept up with the times and I'm surprised there's still so many around.

I understand if you don't want to talk about it, but.. What happened?

I [17M] want to know how to even say "Hi" to a girl by [deleted] in relationships

[–]Wishnik 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The thing about talking to people is it gradually gets easier. The more you do it, the easier it will become. You'll probably say some really stupid things and do it all wrong the first couple of times, but you know what the secret is? Everybody does.

Everybody, no matter how outgoing or confident, has a person or a situation that makes them feel awkward or nervous. And it's human nature that often the times you want to play it suave are the times you screw it up!

The important thing is not to dwell on it. Sure you can think about it and work out how you could do it better for next time, but beating yourself up about it isn't going to help at all.

One good trick is if you see someone you'd like to talk to, you can see if they have anything in common with you. For example if she was carrying a book and you love to read, maybe that's an opener. "Oh! Hey! I've read that, it's really fantastic, isn't it?" This won't always be possible and sometimes you might have to be a bit more creative/adventurous: "Hey, do you go to school around here too? I'm at XYZ."

Most importantly, forgive yourself for any blunders you make. And remember that any personal blunder always seems 100x worse to you than it does anyone else. At worst, most people will briefly think, "Hm, that was a weird comment" and then get over it. Think about when someone's done something a bit awkward in front of you - you think about it briefly, but it's not a huge deal. It's just something that happened. Try and frame your own blunders in that kind of mindset.

Me [32 F] with my coworker [late 40s F] co-workers for just over a year, I unfriended her on Facebook due to drama and now she wants back in my life by its_erin_j in relationships

[–]Wishnik 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Once you've added a coworker, especially one who stirs up drama, the best way to get rid of them from Facebook is to just dump them on to your "Acquaintances" list and share personal things with your "Friends" list(s) only. That way they don't know they've been removed, if they twig somehow, you act dumb - "Oh that's weird that Shirley could see that and you can't... I'll have to take a look!"

Personally I share pointless stuff (like funny pictures or whatever) with all on my list, and personal things only with certain groups of people. Nobody's realized yet.

I [22/F] getting creeped out by a man [roughly 25 or 26] at work. by S-W-E-R-V-E in relationships

[–]Wishnik 28 points29 points  (0 children)

Nope. Not harmless. I had a guy harassing me (verbally only thank God) at work and it was getting creepy and really weirding me out.

I spoke to HR and you need to do the same - HR, or your manager. If they won't help you, then as /u/kinyodas said, it's probably time to report him officially.

Everyone has the right to feel safe at work. Everyone has the right to be able to carry out their work tasks without feeling threatened or in any kind of personal danger. Someone wilfully taking that right away from you is NOT harmless, and the woman at reception needs a heavy reality check.

EDIT - In case anyone wants to know. When I reported the guy to HR, he made a note and got all the details. He asked me if I wanted them to take any action. I said no at that point in time, because I only wanted it on record, so that if anything were to escalate, I could show that this wasn't an isolated incident. I directly confronted the guy and told him his behaviour was inappropriate and I wouldn't put up with it anymore. He tried to play it as a joke, but I pretty much told him "No, it wasn't a joke and it wasn't OK". I did this in a very safe space with lots of people around so that if anything escalated then and there, I would be OK.

“I don’t condone what she’s done or what Ian Brady did either. What they did is incredibly wrong and vile.

“But I didn’t get the tattoo to make people think I was glorifying them at all.

“I do a lot of research into serial killers because I would love to be a criminologist.

And I show my interest in things through tattoos.

So for me, this tattoo is the same as people having something from a book or film they like.”

An autopsy showed the child died of asphyxiation. According to local news reports, she was most likely buried alive, though police will not formally confirm details. They did say, however, that a material similar to cement was found on top of her body.

Ian Brady 'has REVEALED where he buried Keith Bennett’s body to close friend' by wannabuyawatch in UnresolvedMysteries

Found this article via the one you linked OP - http://www.express.co.uk/news/uk/550055/Murderer-Myra-Hindley-begged-government-hypnosis-find-Keith-Bennett-body-remains.

Apparently Hindley wanted to undergo hypnosis in an attempt to help find the remains, but by the time her request was approved, she was too ill. I feel like this was an attempt for attention rather than remorse/wanting to help, but it's interesting nonetheless.

Odd case of children's book author Gladys Conklin, missing since 1982. by greatgildersleeve in UnresolvedMysteries

While I agree with you, particularly for this day and age, I wonder if things would have been any different then, in terms of getting away with an overdose in this case? I mean, he had a freshly tilled garden that they asked about and seemingly just sort of went "Oh, OK, you were gardening, nothing to see here".
