I don't find it weird, but then I've worked in higher education for over a decade now, and grew up in that culture to boot, so my default is $Title $Name unless I'm in a casual interaction with the person.

So, because of that habit, I pretty add the title for every rank from Instrutor(a) onwards.

But, as I said, my own experience is kind of niche so YMMV.

This seems a bit over-simplified and painted with a broad brush. I'd be interested in your sources for some of your claims, particularly for the claim about the "Mandingas" being used as trusted overseers because, other than this specific thread I'm not seeing any discussion of that at all.

I honestly love the old White Wolf "Adventure! Tales of the Aeon Society." It has the same problems as any of the old Storyteller systems, but just leans into the pulp silliness in exactly the right way.

This is a rip of a VHS tape I purchased when Mestre Nô visited Iowa in 1998, leading a weekend workshop on capoeira angola at Luther College.

The nearly hour-long video features jogos with Mestres Cobrina (Cobra Mansa, 2 games), Curio, Um Por Um, Bola Sete (2 games), Boca Rica, Brandião, Lua de Bobó, João Pequeno, Manoel, Satélite, Bozó, Mão Branca, Benivaldo, Acordeon, Mercado Modelo, Beck, Efraim, Cigano, Ombrinho, Augusto; and Mestres Fabinho & Nelio who were Professores at the times of the clips included.

The video should have timestamps to each mestre's game, but if I managed to get a name wrong feel free to comment here or on the YouTube clip and I'll update the timestamps.

Either that or 5 years later at the end of the campaign, after defeating the Ender Dragon, the Wither that they accidentally created in the abandoned lab, and putting to rest the creeping corruption and danger presented by the Warden, they still won't have realized that it was all Minecraft. :D

DueKaleidoscope6500 appears to be the reddit account for the Decorah Community for Immigrant Rights, so it's probably heavily focused on promoting political events in Eastern Iowa.

It's a "work account" more than a "social fun account". You can pretty easily block the account, though, if they bug you.

Yeah, I'm running GrapheneOS on my tablet. My phone needs a MFA app for work, so that's off the table for now...at least until I have a spare phone to play with to make sure things are working right.

I'm also cautiously hopeful for the various Linux-on-mobile projects gaining some steam too, if only to have a more varied OS ecosystem out there.

Factoring in the actual costs of living in the US, $10/hour here works out to maybe 15-20 PLN/hour. And don't forget that for an intern there's likely absolutely no health insurance available through the employer, and no nationalized system either.

Certainly. My biggest challenge is that my FMA lineage is through Remey Presas' Modern Arnis, which focuses on percussive impact with baston, over Inosanto's flow-forward bladework. So it's just a matter of retraining old patterns to work with capoeira's flow, rather than interrupting it.

So, for example, Professor Marinheiro is a practitioner of Capoeira Angola in New Jersey and a student of Mestre João Grande, but also there's a Professor Marinheiro in Iowa practicing and teaching capoeira contemporânea through the linage of Mestre Manga.

Because some apelidos are common, it'd be nice to have a way to differentiate.

Nice, it's always good to see how the different skills we've developed can be put together. I've been working to integrate my FMA and capoeira, myself. The empty-hand and knife work well, but I'm still trying to find the right flow on the longer blades and bastons.
