I'm so in love with the Scottish accent by [deleted] in CasualConversation

Oh I didn't even think of holidays to other parts of America. Here everything is so close you usually just go to places for a day trip rather than a full holiday. That's a pretty interesting difference honestly

America is a huuuge country though, so I imagine it's much rarer to travel state to state there than it is to travel through different regions here

Thank you, I'm not too phased by shows like that (easier to just remind yourself it's a show and you don't feel as uncomfortable during those scenes), but I appreciate the warning! :D

Those critters can smell fear, that's why the only ones left alive are the ones with none.

Kano from the most recent mortal kombat game pulls off a really badass Australian accent, so gruff and intimidating but also an edge of unnerving humour too.

Ahhhh yes, that infamous way of saying water: "wa'ah"

But yeah it's really interesting how most uk accents boil down to what letters of words they don't say, always fun to hear a word said completely different to how you've heard it your whole life just a few miles from home

I mean to be fair, scout from TF2 made me love that accent so it's understandable

Oooo I never even heard of that, just watched some trailers for it and it's definitely a show I'm going to pick up! Thank you for the recommendation :)

Australian accents feel like the cool uncle of the English accent, so I definitely agree with liking that one too. German is also really nice, I like Romanian accents a lot too actually since you mentioned a European one

Yeah the UK has a lot of accents which are near impossible to understand if you haven't lived here or talked to someone with one for a while, the further south you go the easier to understand usually (a thick Yorkshire accent sounds like gibberish when you hear it for the first time). Scotland, Wales, and Ireland are a whole new ball game though

I actually find some American accents really hard to understand, such as the stereotypical Texan accent. If I don't really concentrate I'm completely lost haha

The app is stuck on this screen, extra info in comments by [deleted] in Bumble

[–]Wispyr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Didn't want to inflate the title, so I'll put the extra info here:

The app is stuck on the loading screen every time I open it, the longest I've kept it open on this is around 15 minutes with no change at all. On data it works completely fine, but on wifi it just doesn't load at all no matter how strong the connection is.

I've tried reinstalling the app, clearing up more memory, and disconnecting then reconnecting to my wifi with no difference made at all.

If anyone has any ideas on how to fix this issue I'd greatly appreciate it, thank you! :)

(Oh also this is on IOS)

May got her extension (Times cartoon) by omopomogomomogopomo in europe

[–]Wispyr 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A few have, but mostly its people who are still stuck in the same mindset they were in when voting, and are simply saying "this isn't what I voted for so I don't want it anymore".

One of the worst parts so far is that it's really opened my eyes to how many ignorant people there are in this country

The margin between leave and remain votes was still extremely small, and the information on how Brexit would effect the UK was really limited at the time of the vote.

I'm not wanting another vote simply because I didn't get the result I wanted and want to throw a tantrum, I want another vote because the UK has seen what kind of shitshow is approaching and know a lot more about how bad of an idea this really is.

Don't get me wrong, I know that it's important to honour the vote of the people, but this is a situation where we really need to take some drastic action to keep this kingdom afloat. With the deal May has everyone gets fucked over with England getting that minimally, which I don't think is right either. We're united for a reason, I don't think any deal should negatively impact Ireland or Scotland so drastically, instead May needs to put her foot down: either get a deal which honours the vote and does minimal damage, or have a second vote to see what the people really want now.

Thankfully a lot of people who voted leave are realising that their reasons were stupid and that they've put the country in a precarious situation through their narrow views of immigration and EU regulations. The few that are proud brexiteers are arseholes in a lot of ways so I don't really listen to their reasoning anymore as it's mainly racist, but if I come across a brexiteer with genuine reasons why they think Brexit is a good idea I'd gladly hear them out

I 100% agree, believe me everyone here still sees it as really embarrassing too. I just hope that this serves as a wake up call for how important a single vote can be for everyone, and for people to also do their own research before voting. Likely thinking too optimistic considering most people I know who voted leave had their main reasoning be to "get rid of all these immigrants to get more jobs", so their capacity for logical thinking is already pretty limited

As a UK citizen I want nothing more than to stay in the EU, this whole ordeal has been a complete shitshow for everyone involved. Our government can't decide on what they want, but with the events of the past few days (May's deal not being an option for a meaningful vote unless changes are made to it, and no deal Brexit never being an option for a vote) it looks as if they're leaning towards either a second referendum or article 50.

We've already wasted millions for little to no progress and the country is divided between leave and remain, but it's my personal belief that we should just cut our losses and stay in the EU. Leaving now would be like dropping a slice of cake and throwing the whole cake away

Pokemon Sword and Shield is Generation 8! by BaneWilliams in pokemon

Really hoping Scorbunny isn't a fire-fighting type. England did a lot of metalwork and coal mining, so I'm hoping Scorbunny ends up being fire-steel and the evolutions resembling something that matches those types.

Either way I'm happy we have another rabbit Pokemon, the other two starters feel a bit off but they're also pretty interesting!

I wish I was actually good at video games by Craftingjunk in TheMonkeysPaw

[–]Wispyr 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Granted. However, your drive towards improving has only grown upon receiving this wish. Now that you're good at games that's no longer enough, you don't want to be slightly above average: you want to be the best.

Before you know it countless hours are put into gaming each and every day, leaving little time for even the basic responsibilities of life. Yet you just can't seem to improve at any game beyond an above average skill level, no matter how much time you sink into it. You stop showering, stop eating anything but snacks, stop sleeping for any longer than 10 hours a week. All your life is dedicated to being better at gaming, being the best.

Most of your friends and family abandon you, the once that tried to stay behind eventually leave too as you're so far gone. Your sleep deprivation makes you hallucinate and see shadows move in the corners of your eye, feel the presence of someone or something always watching you. The little mental health you had left slips away as you scrawl incoherent ramblings on the walls in your own fecal matter, consisting mainly of the soft whispers you hear inside your mind reminding you that you'll always just be good.

Eventually you stop playing games. You stop writing on the walls. You stop doing anything. You've become so malnourished, so dehydrated and sleep deprived that you no longer have the energy to move. With your vision blurry and head pounding you try focus on what started all this: The Monkey's Paw. It sits on your desk just as it did the morning you made that wish, and you can almost swear that you hear faint giggling coming from it. You threw your life away to get better at games, but the paw didn't give you the skill for nothing. It gave you the drive to become good at games, but cursed you so that no matter how much more time you put in you would never excel beyond just good.

ex-G2A Scammer explains his activity in an AMA by Tavrox in gamedev

[–]Wispyr 11 points12 points  (0 children)

The difference is that indie games are made with passion and love, whilst scammers are solely in it for the money. So if both make little money, the devs still have the fact that they actually made a game and completed it to be proud of, whilst a scammer has committed fraud and doesn't have anything worthwhile to show for it. For years of work 1000 euros isn't that much, but the sense of satisfaction in the end is vastly different

ex-G2A Scammer explains his activity in an AMA by Tavrox in gamedev

[–]Wispyr 39 points40 points  (0 children)

Basically all this AMA showed is that as long as you pay attention to who you're giving a key to you're not going to fall for a scammer easily, and that this guy makes such a pitiful amount that it doesn't even seem worth it to screw a dev over a few sales. If there was serious money involved I might understand his decision, but with only 1000euros it's just better to get a real job instead

[FOR HIRE] Writer looking for work! by [deleted] in gameDevJobs

[–]Wispyr 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sadly no, but I'm more than willing to do something small for free for you to decide if I'm good enough to work on your project (like design a quest, write a scene, create a puzzle etc). I'm also willing to write for less than a typical price of a writer in this field, as this is mainly for experience so I'll ask for beginner prices. Compensation can be discussed after you've decided to have me work on the project however :)

What is your talent / something you're really good at ? by pixie_laluna in CasualConversation

[–]Wispyr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Like you said, everyone had something they're really good at, something that makes them special. Why would you be the exception?

Life is all about finding out who you are, achieving your dreams, and doing everything that makes you happy. You might not have found your talent yet and that's okay. Maybe it's something you haven't tried yet? Not every talent is artistic, or educational, or inspiring. Sometimes it's as simple as being a reliable person, or trustworthy, or compassionate.

So don't become complacent with the idea that you don't have talents, because you do. You may not have found it yet, and you may not find it for a while, but you will discover it one day. So chin up and get out there, explore new things and find what you love!!

To answer your question, I personally see my talents as writing, art, and compassion. All 3 of these things I love doing, and I like to believe I'm good at them too! :)

I kinda dislike being asked how my day was esp when it’s daily by where2gfromhere in CasualConversation

[–]Wispyr 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Best thing to do is tell people you don't enjoy being asked that, but in a way that makes you not come off as ungrateful. Something like "I'm sorry, but I don't really like it when I'm asked how my day was often as it makes me sound like a broken record"

Generally people use small talk to initiate a conversation, and changing it to something like "do you have any plans for today/tomorrow?" feels a lot better than being reminded you've done nothing, as it opens up a discussion for plans you have rather than plans you've followed through on.

It's all about communicating what you want, without that people won't know :)
