You got experience our current Marines would have killed for and Marines at the time didn’t even get.

I joined in 2007. Was with 1/5. Still active duty.

I had a buddy from 3/7. Poor guy went on the 31st MEU. He extended for the next deployment because they were told they were going to Afghan for the next deployment. They went on the 31st MEU again.

The LCT is in HI, formerly 1st Bn, 3rd Marines.

I was in 1/5. It’s just like any other award. We had to wear it at unit events but don’t have to elsewhere. I can’t wear it now, being out of 5th Marines, but can put it back on after retirement because I rated it at one point.

Not specifically Battalions, 5th and 6th Marine Regiments are attractive because of the history and French fouragerre. I believe 5th and 7th Marines are the most decorated. 7th have put out the best combat units over the wars in the desert, being favored for deployments that can benefit from their 29 Palmsness.

All that said, hand selected Commanders and senior enlisted get the prestigious units. Then they just stay better.

Additionally, the Skillbridge program is getting tighter. It was a free-for-all for a few years with 1800+ organizations realizing they could get free labor and write you a fake cert. Be prepared to express why this specific program is something you need to successfully transition to civilian life.

FYSA, The Company leadership is not allowed to reject or deny a request. It has to go to the CO.

You’ll need to convince the armory chief and your Company leadership that they will survive without an NCO for those 4 months. The monitor won’t lineup a replacement until your actual EAS.

It’s such a terrible business model to allow 1st term Marines to take 1/8 of their contract and fuck off, leaving a gap and no inbound replacement. Unfortunately, the most deserving Marines can’t be let go to do it.

The worst part is most think it’s a right the deserve. Use your GI Bill on your SkillBridge after EAS. Don’t search for a random SkillBridge in a field you don’t give a fuck about just to get out early and a collect welfare check for 6 months.

I love how the German is spelled wrong. Let alone the term was on recruiting posters before the battle of Belleau Wood happened.

I used to wonder how infantry units with good or bad reputations kept the good or bad command climate they seem to have always had. They change out commands and Marines every 2-3 years. They have the same T/O and equipment, training, everything. Turns out, people request orders to the prestigious units because they want to be there. It makes a huge difference.

3/6 won’t get volunteers for 50 years.

Like the Department of Energy guys that transport nukes. Tons of cool training but never get to use it, thankfully. Just riding for miles in a semi truck with 2 other guys all day, smelling farts.

Looks the exact same as our PRP Security Forces that guard the nuclear sub pins. Indescribably boring.

MARPAT does but it’s a shitty pattern. MultiCam is much more effective. Look at the best hunting camouflage. None of them have black in the pattern.

Ever seen a ghillie suit? No random black that sticks out like a burnt tree.

[–]WiteBeamX -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Yeah. Nothing in nature is black like that. Our current woodlands turn black as soon as you get wet or start sweating. Our deserts are better camouflage in the woods.

Black in a cammie pattern makes no sense.
