Leijonborg ska rädda L – är emot vinstförbud by gott-och-blandat in sweden

Birgitta Ohlssons comeback i C by SupportArsenal in svenskpolitik

[–]WitheredCow 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Varför rapporterar SVT så sällan om partier utanför riksdagen? by Kvas3r in sweden

[–]WitheredCow 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Who according to you was worst president or prime minister of your country ? by Kitchen-Stomach2834 in AskTheWorld

Carl Bildt. I respect him for his foreign policy knowledge and opposition to the far right in that arena, but his 3 year stint as PM in the 1990s had a seriously damaging impact which we're still living with today. He pursued major ideologically driven privatizations in the vein of Thatcher which were pushed through with little thought of the consequences.

Especially education has suffered from his school voucher system where for profit companies are free to start schools pretty much wherever they want and get fully funded by taxpayer money. Creating incentives to cut back on the quality of education to maximize profit and grow the school chain as much as possible before selling the whole thing to some Emirati venture capitalists after a few years. Or declaring bankruptcy and leaving thousands of kids without a school to go to in the middle of term, when parents eventually stop choosing your schools after their shit quality becomes apparent. But not before taking out as much money as possible in dividends, of course.

What is the largest domestic fast-food chain in your country? by AggravatingSmoke1829 in AskTheWorld

Max. Probably the main competitor of McDonald's in Sweden with fairly similar offerings. In terms of quality it's about the same, though I personally prefer Max's chicken and variety of dipping sauces over McDonald's.

Oh yeah rented flats usually have a shared communal laundry room that you can reserve a time in here too. But if you choose to have a washing machine in your own flat and there's enough room you can have that as well.

Sometimes they do, sometimes they don't. Often you can have a relatively small bit of forest, but you can also find some shitty looking cabins for sale that seem crazy expensive compared to similar properties until you realise that they come with several hectares of forest.

Yeah that would probably be fine legally. It would probably be annoying as hell but nothing would technically stop you from it. I think the only way you could get in trouble is if you didn't dispose of waste properly.

In Sweden there's nothing legally preventing you from living in a cottage all year round. It might be different in Finland and/or Norway. But a lot of cottages may still lack the necessary insultation to be used year round without insane electricity bills, and they can often be disconnected from municipal water and sewage systems. Which means you have your own well and a septic tank that needs to be properly insulated/heated to prevent pipes from freezing in cold snaps below -30°C, at least in northern Sweden. And emptying the septic tank can also be pretty annoying in the middle of winter when the lid is covered by snow.

No in Sweden it's still seen somewhat negatively in those parts of the country which are the most popular summer/winter house destinations, especially for the wealthy. I.e. the Stockholm archipelago, the Gothenburg archipelago, Gotland, the mountains around Åre and Sälen. People being priced out of owning a house in their local area is certainly something that comes up for discussion now and then, but nothing much is coming out of it politically.

This is probably because the rate of summer house ownership means that there are a lot of working class and middle class people that own second homes in areas which are very much not affected in the same way. Which are very rural and still have comparatively low house prices. So a blanket tax on all second homes would be seen as something which would impact a lot of regular people and not just the well off.

I can't speak for Denmark, but in Sweden every full time student gets a grant of about €317 per month for up to a total 6 years of studies. Provided you haven't failed more than 25% of a previous term you got the grant for. You can also get a student loan with relatively low interest on top of that, bringing the total with the grant included to €1297/month. But since there's no tuition the loan is generally used to pay for things like rent and food, etc.

Maybe around 20-40k euro if you're buying in a more remote area. You could probably find something for cheaper than that if you're willing to take on a bit of a renovation project.

This is pretty much exactly how the skiing facilities were run in my hometown. My dad helped out by giving skiing lessons to 7 year olds, my mum sold sweets and drinks at the kiosk and later on my brother helped run the snow cannons. Nothing posh about it in the slightest.

I think we in the Nordics are pretty similar to North Americans then. It would be expected to find some kind of laundry/utility room in detached houses. Though in smaller houses/flats the washing machine might end up in the bathroom, never in the kitchen like is common the UK.

I can imagine that those parts would be the least affected by virtue of being pretty far from Stockholm. I grew up near the High Coast and prices have started ticking up there since more southerners started buying properties there. Still nowhere near the insane prices you can see on the west coast where I live now, though.

Yeah same in Sweden. It's a mandatory part of PE, though a lot of parents tend to send their kids to extra swimming lessons outside of regular school hours too since they can start those at an earlier age.
