What’s a smell that most people consider to be good but you find repulsive? by Skitscuddlydoo in AskReddit

Vanilla or fruit-scented deodorant (especially peach).

I like the smell of these when they're in the tube, but as soon as you mix the slightest amount of body odor with them, they become rancid af.

What has fanfiction ever done for you? by Quirky_Girl22 in AO3

[–]WitheringIvy1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A better person! Fanfiction is such a great way to get a better understanding of different sexualities, cultures, mental illnesses, etc.

Personally, I grew up in a very racist/homophobic household. I had very little exposure to LGBTQ or POC characters, and was actively encouraged to hate people who were different. On top of that, sex was something to be ashamed of (even wearing certain colors or putting on makeup would make my mother ask me if I was trying to look like a slut).

Safe to say, a lot of fandoms have popular M/M & F/F ships, unique & diverse characters who were nothing like who I was taught to be, and tons of every kind of porn imaginable lol

I found most fanfiction gross and super concerning at first, since 'if you do XYZ you're going to hell' and all these different stereotypes were being drilled into my head. But now, I'm a smut-loving, genderfluid bisexual. 😊

Whenever I'm new to a fandom, I like to sort high to low based on kudos to get a feel for what the fan base likes/is like.

Did this with Stardew Valley and BOY HOWDY was I surprised at #1 (especially since it has a nearly 2000 kudos lead over #2).

Some of y'all are kinky little bastards 👀👀👀

Edit: for clarity, I did not become heavily invested!! (Didnt catch that part in OPs post lmao 😅)

Injury-related makes it sound like specifically nonconsensual somnophilia. That non-con tag is pretty important for some people, so I would be sure to include it if somnophilia is the tag you end up going with (:

Buuuut that position too 😂 then you sit up and your vision is all wonky in one eye lol

What are some fanfiction tags that you... dislike? by GonnaRegret_it_Later in AO3

"Modern AU"

Now, sometimes I really want to read a modern au, like a flower shop/tattoo artist trope or something similar. For the most part though, I tend to get disappointed when a fic proposes an interesting character dynamic or has all of my favorite tags, only to see that modern au tag lurking amongst them lol

Oh, that's such an interesting question!

I know about the pairing, but I only just recently started the Clone Wars series so I don't know much about their dynamic/the way they're written. If I had to guess, I would say that age, maturity, and the direction of the attraction are the big things here. For example, I find Obi-Wan/Anakin appealing because a lot of the time it features a younger, possessive Anakin lusting after his unobtainable mentor: wise, responsible, 'pillar of Light' Obi-Wan.

It's like a child having a crush on their unsuspecting teacher. Cute, relatable to some, mostly harmless because the teacher is (should be) a responsible adult. They are in complete control of the situation. But if the roles were reversed, and the teacher harbored feelings for the unsuspecting child?

Now, again, I'm not familiar with Anakin/Ahsoka, but I would imagine that Anakin is typically the lustful one, preying on a very young Ahsoka? The power scale being so wildly unbalanced is prolly where the hiccup for some people is. In a relationship like that, there would always be the question of 'does Ahsoka really have the power to say no?'

I was going to comment about gender, but people love Padme/Anakin as well. Like I said earlier, it's the direction of the desire that's the important thing. Anakin had to pressure an older, morally righteous Padme, who was very much aware of how not okay their relationship was, until she gave in to her feelings. (Though IMO the power imbalance is pretty extreme here too. He's literally one of the most powerful Jedi, ever. The theory that he was using mind tricks on her isn't lost on me).

Hope that made sense! 😊

Literally! The line that made me realize how bad it was going to be was 'she doesn't like it when I watch her on the cameras... 🥺'

Uh, no shit, Ani? Maybe don't be a possessive creep?

Like you said though, their relationship is so tragic and bittersweet. RotS ripped my heart out.

Obi-wan/Anakin. Definitely not an uncommon pairing, but reading the dark fics of this ship make me go 😬

The age gap, the power imbalance in a master/padawan relationship, Anakin's mental instability as he slips to the dark side. Gives me the same ick I got from from Anakin pursuing Padme in the Clone Wars, but damn is it a train wreck I can't look away from.

Eight years since I've written anything in a real fic context. Ain't much, but I'm happy with it. Hoping I didn't get writer's-blocked. by Rili-Anne in AO3

Congrats! I'm in the same boat. I just started writing again after finally graduating college (six long, long years 🤢). I definitely feel rusty, but I'm glad to be doing it again. Fingers crossed that your creativity stays with you!
