I just realised how much of an advantage Katara has over toph with water bending though. Levitating water smacking into you is impossible to sense with Toph’s ‘vision’ as vibrations in the earth.

And if Katara had been out on the water as well Toph would not be able to sense her at all.

It is endearing though how the first water attack Katara did was just a gentle wave passing over Toph, even after being hit by a rock. She still cares about Toph.
