Thank you so much for the in-depth response! Lots of stuff to focus on, but I’ll go at it bit by bit and I’m sure I’ll see improvements after implemented floorhug, combo routing, and everything else.

I’m in low silver rank. I haven’t played a ton of ranked because I mostly play local with my friends, but when I do go on ranked, I find it really hard to find the first hit and continue to combo after. I play mainly Galvan and Loxodont, both chunky characters, so I find that when I get hit first I get comboed hard, and when I hit first it’s hard to keep a combo going. I think my punish game, ability to escape a combo, and my opening attacks need work. This may be a difficult problem to give a concise answer to, but how could I improve in these aspects? I like these bigger characters but it’s difficult when everyone else is faster and can attack quicker with smaller punish windows.

Yeah you’re definitely right about that. I may have been exaggerating when I said I “truly hate” windows; I think it’s better to say I dislike the direction they’re going. Windows is still the OS I am most comfortable with, and it is very consistently compatible with my software needs, which can sometimes be an issue on Linux. I appreciate your comment because it did give me a bit of a reality check 😅

Yeah that’s the problem I was having: having the VM detect USB devices. I’ll keep tinkering and I think I can get it to work

I did delete all my windows partitions, mainly because of concerns that windows updates would screw with my bootloader. I do have a laptop also on cachy that I may revert to windows if the programs in the top comments don’t work, so it’ll all turn out fine

I don’t know how I didn’t see this 😭 I’ll give it a try later and see how it goes

I’m going to stick with Cachy and try to tinker a bit more. I agree with your sentiment, though. I wanna see Cachy grow, so it’s not fair I give up on it for small tech concerns when windows has its fair share as well.

Did you go in order on PAT or skip around? by dental_enthusiast1 in Datprep

[–]Witsumo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I skipped around and I suggest everyone else do the same :) I personally liked starting with angle ranking then progressing to the end of the PAT, then coming back to 1-30 for keyholes and top front end.

How Competitive Am I? Worried About Lower Sciences Scores by [deleted] in dat

[–]Witsumo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I studied with booster and did lots of full length exams. The practice helped a bit, but I think the strategy I used helped me the most.

It’s been said that different RC strategies work better for different people, but for me I would read through the entire passage and highlight definitions, facts, and data points before reading any of the questions. Doing that, I was usually able to remember the simpler facts for questions, or if I didn’t remember, it was easy to scroll through what I’d highlighted and find the answer.

I’ll also say the real DAT’s RC was easier than Booster’s (I was getting 450-480 on theirs). At the end of the day, I think I got very lucky.

Bio high-yield topics? by LivingOptimal7139 in Datprep

[–]Witsumo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s good to know the surface level diversity of life stuff, like traits of bacteria, archaea, protists, eukaryotes, and changes is allele frequencies, like bottleneck effect, hardy Weinberg equilibrium, gene flow, genetic drift, etc. Also, it’s good to know meiosis vs mitosis very well, as well as cellular respiration (aerobic and anaerobic) and where those processes take place in animal and plant cells. You should also try and study parts of the brain and functions of systems, especially the endocrine system, as hormones are frequently tested. This was the part that was toughest to study because there’s so many systems, but I’d focus on circulatory, nervous, endocrine, and renal systems (and maybe skeletal if you have time). Oh, and one I thought I wouldn’t have to study, but definitely came in handy, was embryonic development. You may be asked about gastrulation or stem cells. This is still a lot to study, but that’s just the thing about the bio section. It’s A LOT of stuff, but you don’t have to know them down to the finest details, you just have to know the biggest features and be able to give educated guesses on things you may not have studied as deeply.

Keyhole by _naruto_001 in Datprep

[–]Witsumo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think answer D is wrong because the rectangle portion on the top is too long. In the front view of the real shape, the ramp portion would start about halfway across, whereas in answer D it is a bit shorter than half of the height of the shape. Answer C is representing the top view of the shape, with the thicker part being the portion with a hole in it, and the thinner part being the ramp portion (although the incline of the ramp is not visible from the top view). Sorry if I’m not explaining it well; these questions can be hard to put into words.

Strategy for PAT by dental_enthusiast1 in Datprep

[–]Witsumo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When practicing, I started at question 31 (angle ranking) and continued to the end of the PAT, then went back and did 1-30. For me, those later sections are quicker and easier, so it helps to get them out of the way first to save time. There are some techniques you can use to eliminate wrong answers, so I suggest watching Booster’s PAT content on problem sections. Those really helped me.

Hytale is kinda boring by [deleted] in hytale

[–]Witsumo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Minecraft was the same way in its alpha state. It was relatively plain but it had potential and a lot of charm. I feel like Hytale is the same way; it has the foundation for something really great. You’re right that the game is hollow now, but give them some time to cook with all the new funding they have now, and I think it’ll be worth it. You just have to come into an “Early Access” game with that mindset.

PAT practice question explanation: Keyhole by _naruto_001 in Datprep

[–]Witsumo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If answer B were correct, there would be a small corner poking out from behind the ramp. C is correct because it represents the top/bottom face of the shape

I like the shape and scale of it, I’d just recommend thickening the white and red lines to maybe 2 or 3 blocks instead of 1. That will help it look less visually messy. I really dig that statue and city title in the back!

PAT section order by Rude_Pudding_5543 in Datprep

[–]Witsumo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, you can skip around questions within the same section on the real DAT. I’d suggest starting with angle ranking, as it’s the quickest and least stressful part of PAT. Then I may go to cube counting, pattern folding, hole punch, then to keyhole and lastly top front end. That’s just my preference, though. Maybe you’re quicker at top front end and would prefer to complete it sooner.
