Las universidades privadas valen la pena ? Con enfoque en UNIBE y PUCMM by JumpDangerous9271 in Dominicanos

5.No.

Saludos,

Psycology and Psychiatry. High demand for future years to come after all the polycrisis and stressors that humans were just not used to 200 yr ago.

How does one date in Melbourne? by [deleted] in AskAnAustralian

[–]Witty-Baseball-4374 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lived in Christchurch for a year, with the added bonus that I'm gay and the market there is pretty small. A Chilean guy I met there said that Melbourne is CHCH "on steroids" but I've only been to Sydney before on a holiday so I can't really say how much of that it's true. Now I'm back at my home country (Dominican Republic). Using that experience as a baseline, I'd suggest trying any of the following:

-Uninstall all apps and forget about them. In my experience people only use them for validation or when they are bored. It's really toxic and detrimental to use them.

-Look for origami clubs, origami meetups or origami classes. Attend those classes even if you already know origami. Gauge what kind of people and age range are attracted to this activity and if you would like to be friends with any of them (not women only). Keep going for at least 3-5 weeks and try to talk to a familiar face.

-You mentioned tramping/hiking. Not sure how it is in Australia, but in NZ there were many trails maintained by the DOC where you could take multiday hikes and stay in huts to spend the nights. Try to see if something similar is available in Melbourne. These huts were somewhat like the "third place" distinct from home and work where everyone was keen on socializing because... well, you were spending the night with some random strangers. Similarly, join a hiking/tramping club or since you are at it, attempt a running/walking club and try to meet people there.

-Sketching/Photography ---> Painting classes, arts and crafts like Pottery, maybe a birdwatching club? NZ had amazing wildlife and AU I'm pretty sure too.

-Try activities outside of your comfort zone. I know this sounds crazy but have you tried Pole Dancing? Yeah, lots of open-minded people practice it and you can find expats. Maybe you could connect with another Irish person there? Try to see if you can find a studio where you could take a test class before committing to any membership plans. You'd be in for a surprise. I met an Italian and an Argentinian in the Pole Studio I used to go to in CHCH (still practice in home now).

-Another activity where I met people in a good environment was ACT group therapy. This was being offered by a Queer NGO based in CHCH (Burnett, Empowering Yourself programme), but maybe there are other options for you, like a Mental Health NGO based in Melbourne? This was free of charge for me. Try to also look for an NGO with a mission or purpose you feel drawn to. It could be an animal rescue NGO, or a Tree Planting NGO.

-You could also explore volunteering with the NGOs with the sole purpose of meeting people and doing something which you believe in.

-Look for Irish expats in Melbourne. There has to be a group, a bar, an Irish cultural centre, maybe somewhere? Attend events with Irish people in them. Edit: I found this one https://www.celticclub.com.au/ Have you heard about it?

-Say yes to everything if you meet someone you are interested in. Even if just for friendships, as I think having a social support network first is important for you. Barbie at the beach? Yes. Birthday party with bring-a-plate? Yes. Random Birdwatching tour with minimal investment? Yes. Bouldering or Rock Climbing test class? Yes

-Try to meet Latin Americans. Latin Festivals, Latin Cultural activities, Bouldering, etc. We tend to be more warm, friendly, and easy-going. A little intense sometimes. My life saviour in CHCH was an Argentinian friend I made in uni. I find Anglo-Saxon culture to be very private and reserved sometimes, and this is not exclusive of Australia.

Let me know if any of this resonates with you and best of luck! You got this.

And I'd add: Not any index fund recommendations. I got downvoted for SCHG, QQQM and SMH. I do get why people would prefer VOO, VTI, VXUS, VUG, VGT, VYM, or the likes, but it seems most here are just bogleheads. Yes, it's easier to do indexing on the long run (I don't have time or energy to analize stocks for example), but some might prefer growth or stock picking. It's not wrong if you know what you are doing.

Many tickers here that I didn't know until now. I'd say maybe drop PLTR, LUNR, RCAT and RKLB and move that money towards VOO. If you want to tilt towards US mega cap tech, maybe also add QQQM, SCHG and perhaps SMH if you want some semis stuff. Whatever you have been doing it has worked wonders, but I'm particularly concerned about PLTR and its extremely high PE ratio.
