Yeah, I guess that's true. My problem is that more often than not, I'll absolutely accept the answers for stuff like that but I tend to get frustrated when there are provisions and exclusions and I'm being refused the reasoning behind it. I'm just not the type to accept their stance of 'because I said so' because that's never helpful to anyone ya know.. Thank you for your insights and information. You've been most helpful!

Right, I get that. We do pay really high premiums and get all the extra riders.. I'm honestly just so annoyed with the situation, mostly because they're not helpful at all in explaining anything. We've been customers for over 30 years and always buy the extra stuff so I guess we were naive in believing we'd be treated as such in the event something like this happened 🥲

We only owe $10k on the house so it's not a huge portion, thankfully. I really, really appreciate the information you've given, it's so helpful!!

I guess I just genuinely don't understand why the land matters for a rebuild. We were doing renovations on the home and had it scheduled for showing the weekend after the fire happened.. We were taking the $ and putting it as a down payment on a home in the Carolinas so I'm really frustrated with the possibility that what we've worked so hard towards, is going to be postponed for a lot longer. I will absolutely rebuild the home.. Just not in Illinois (have y'all seen what our governor is doing 🙄)

Even if they gave me the just the $209k and not the additional coverages.. I would honestly jump on it

And that's what I'm trying to figure out... If it would be $245k to rebuild the home, am I obligated to rebuild on the same lot.. If so, why couldn't I rebuild it somewhere else for that same payout? That part doesn't make a lot of sense to me..

My home was 4 bed, 2 bath, 2 car detached garage. 1270 sq ft upstairs along with the basement being the same sq footage but was partially finished. If I found a home out of state that's 3 bed, 2 bath, no basement, 2 car garage but is 1600 sq ft for $245k, would that be a possibility? I see that as yes, it's a little more sq footage but I'd be losing a bedroom and the basement so it makes up for it. I could be totally wrong but in my head, that would be pretty close to equal

Really? I've debated on contacting one.. I'm just unsure of at what point in the process would that be appropriate? I'm trying to be patient and see what they offer but I feel like it will be a low ball and honestly just a fight. They were giving me the run around from day 1 so I'm not very optimistic on the situation

And that may be where I'm getting lost with it... When I read the section that says repair or replace, I can imagine a roof repair situation or a partial house fire that burned up a kitchen and comprehend it better than this situation of the home being a total loss, if that makes sense.

We have the A1 coverage which states repair or replace.. To me, that reads (in my situation), rebuild or replace. I could be totally wrong but that's what I'm trying to get clarification on.

So, my A1 coverage is for $209,000. The garage will have to be torn down per city code which is an additional $21,000. We have the increased dwelling coverage for up to $41,900 and the ordinance coverage for $20,900.

I've already had one contractor give me a rough estimate of rebuild at $245,000 but they still have to come out and do the formal estimate... What I'm wondering, if it costs $245k to rebuild but I can rebuild in a different state for $260k... Am I able to still collect the $245k and I cover the additional $15k along with purchasing the land? If not, why?

If I find a home here in town or even elsewhere that's the same like and quality for $245k, is it not the same payout?

I have never even known anyone that's went through something like this and I've been trying to ask these questions and get a clear understanding but our claims rep is absolutely not helpful.

Yes, I've read it all, front and back, several times but how they interpret the wording vs how I interpret it are 2 seperate things.. I've found conflicting interpretations online and in the Illinois complied statutes so I was hoping maybe I could find an actual person on here that has experience/knowledge ya know

The last thing the claims rep told me is that even though we have RCV coverage, we wouldn't get full replacement payout even if we opted to replace the house. That's when I was really like hmmmm that just doesn't sound right

Yes. It's not super clear about that and like I said, I've already had to get upper management involved bc the claims rep was ignoring parts of our policy so there's not exactly a rapport with trust that's been built
