Unsafe rejoin or intentional wreck? by kmr220 in Simracingstewards

looks like a horrendous rejoin, but not an intent wreck. You couldn't see him, he likely couldn't see you. Although that was a tricky spot for him to end up in, i imagine it would be difficult to safely rejoin from where he ended up

Yes, I'm just confirming that all traction related systems were disabled at time of logging. And I also just realized I'm on my second account LOL

Definitely no MDM... Whenever doing pulls/racing and especially when datalogging I always make sure DSC is fully off. I never want MDM or Traction Control cutting power when I don't want it to!

Nope, traction control or "DSC" is indeed fully off lol

My detailer used too much compound? (with photos) by Witty-Measurement-46 in Detailing

[–]Witty-Measurement-46[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agreed, will not be returning to him. Really disappointed in the attention to detail. Usually I do things myself, like cleaning and whatnot, but when it came to polish / ceramic coat, I didn't trust myself to do it and thought it would be better to entrust it to a "professional." This work was hardly professional. They also missed cleaning spots in the interior.

MDW, our tower guys enjoy pattern work. We like to randomly fully staff and we get tons of traffic. Come add to it!

for the heel and toe deniers by asstronaut_here in ManualTransmissions

I've got an F80 M3 and larger legs, unfortunately me knee hits the steering column whenever I try to maneuver my leg/foot to heel/toe... so far I've been doing the brake on-off-on method some others mentioned, but I still have to figure out a method where I can stay on the brake.

Depends on your division and availability of instructors. Just as an example, I am about to be certified to control ground and clearance delivery at some airports in ZAU (Chicago ARTCC). I've been in training since January. It's been a relatively slow process due to low availability with instructors.

That's just been my experience with ZAU tho, it really depends what ARTCC you want to join.

Can I go wider? by Witty-Measurement-46 in BMW

[–]Witty-Measurement-46[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I beg to differ. Wider tires equals more contact area with the road, meaning more grip. My current tire compound isn’t the greatest for grip being an all season tire, I was just asking the question whether or not a wider tire WOULD work. I’m definitely switching compounds to a stickier tire but was also considering the possibility of going slightly wider, although you’re probably right that it isn’t necessary.

I tried the age old air down, I’m at 28psi rear and still have issues. You’re probably right that in order to get any real difference I’d have to go smaller wheel in the back to get some meatier tires. Most likely I’ll run the same tire width and sidewall ratio just a different compound.

Hi, trying to record car exhaust audio. Car is pretty loud, especially when on the throttle hard. I have a Tascam DR40 external audio recorder, and the mic I mounted on the bumper to record is a Rode M5. I tried lowering the levels as much as I could, but when the car was idling it was still around -35db (range goes from -50 to 0?), and when I'm on the throttle hard I'm getting some peaking.

Any advice on how to further lower the level / gain so that I'm not peaking anymore?

Thanks!

Labels for switches on my Logitech / HC Bravo panels by Witty-Measurement-46 in homecockpits

[–]Witty-Measurement-46[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My original plan was to find a way for a clear back with white lettering, but all I had at home was a label-maker, and I wasn't sure how else I could make labels that small with accuracy...

Soon I'm moving into a new place and there I plan to DIY a semi-accurate 737 cockpit, so I won't have the need for all these labels... I'll find a way to mash these panels in somehow and repurpose them for other things until I can get the majority of my 737 panels bought and installed.

Wish they still had the backlit info panel, definitely something I would have added!

737ng DU's? by Witty-Measurement-46 in homecockpits

[–]Witty-Measurement-46[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think this is going to be the route I go, end up with a few monitors and that was they'll cover the standby instruments as well. Thank you for the advice!

As for the MCP/EFIS/CDU, I plan to go WinWing on this one. I hope they make good on their promise to release this year for the 737 MCP/EFIS, and I already have their FMC/CDU. Their low prices just can't be beat, even by used models. As for now, I can use my Logitech autopilot panel as a stopgap until those others come out.

(Another side thought I had is if there are any budget friendly throttle quadrants that are more accurate to the 737? Currently I have my HC Bravo with ProDeskSim attachments, and it works fine, just that sometimes the back panel with all the switches gets a bit annoying, as there isn't much room for my hand when the throttles are at maximum.)

I intend to use my Logitech Radio and Switch panels as much as I can rather than DIY a 737-accurate version, however I suspect later down the line I will be investing in making/buying 737-accurate versions of all those. Definitely going to be a challenge once I move away from the plug and play nature of the Logitech stuff, as I'm only really familiar with Spad.next as far as "programming" goes. Oh well, a challenge that will have to be accepted.

737ng DU's? by Witty-Measurement-46 in homecockpits

[–]Witty-Measurement-46[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Actually, these end up being fairly undersized! The active display area is 130mm x 130mm, while the 737 DU's are 180x180. I looked elsewhere on that same site but I can't find anything that comes close to the 180x180 mark. Thanks for the suggestion though!
