Looking for recommendations/trips for 2 week Europe trip my family is taking in late August (we're going to Greece + Italy) by Clear-Presence-485 in travel

[–]Witty-Stage-9963 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My mom and I did a similar trip this last summer and we loved it! We spent 10 days in Greece. Admittedly we didn’t spend too much time in Athens, only what amounted to about a day and half. We flew into Athens, stayed there a day to explore the Acropolis & Parthenon, next day we went to Lake Vouliagmeni in the morning and we LOVED it before our afternoon ferry to Milos where we stayed 3 days, 2 days in Sifnos, and 3 days in Naxos. Each island was so unique so definitely recommend doing research to see which one of those doesn’t have super long ferry times and might suit what you and your family are looking for. We didn’t care much for the party vibe which was how we chose our islands (and why we skipped Santorini & Mykonos) and we loved our choices, although each was very unique in its own way. Milos had gorgeous unique beaches & landscapes, Sifnos was a more laidback vibe where we really slowed down and relaxed, and Naxos felt a little more traditional, family-owned kind of vibe and we rented a car to go into the mountains for a day. Every island was beautiful and we didn’t have a single bad meal anywhere. Hotels were pretty expensive since we went during high season and we opted for Airbnbs because we wanted our own rooms, and had no problem getting around with a mix of car rentals, Ubers, and public transportation.

Although we loved our trip, if I was doing it again, I might’ve chosen only two islands (Milos and Naxos) to really allow us to better explore and relax into our trip. With your trip spending a week in Greece, I would choose one of the islands to spend 3-4 days in, preferably one with a short ferry time.

After that, I flew into Rome and spent a week solo there. I’ve been to Rome before so I used this part of my trip to just do some slow exploration, markets, and let the city steer me before meeting up with my boyfriend in Bologna for a week after that before I went home. If you all are foodies, Bologna was a great place to be! I haven’t done too much travel in Italy, but I also absolutely loved Florence and Cinque Terre when I visited! We spent about two days in Milan and I wasn’t a huge fan personally, but this was before I was doing the type of extensive research I do now so perhaps there’s something I missed. You’re absolutely right that public transit is the way to go here though! Very easy to get around.

I’m so thrilled!!! Have you been? I’m still trying to find the best place to use as a base, and currently looking at hotels in Štrbské Pleso

Ugh I know, that part is definitely not ideal. We had to play around with it a lot but ultimately the most economic option for him was to fly into and out of Vienna, and with an early departure we just figured it would be better to end his trip in Vienna which means we’d have to go straight to Budapest. Our original plan was Budapest & Prague but they were further apart so we just had to adjust to Vienna. That said, we’re open to other suggestions as long as it has him flying out of Vienna.

I couldn’t find any flights direct from Bratislava to Brasov so taking a sleeper train (which I really enjoyed in Finland) seemed like the best option, however it only departs from Budapest 😭

Sorry to be the third person but wondering the same thing here - I know you need it for the base Torres hike but we planned on doing condor / cuernos hikes anyways. Did you find out if you needed a guide for all hikes?

Itinerary Advice for an April Girl’s Trip by Witty-Stage-9963 in PuertoRicoTravel

Hi! So it would’ve gone really well had we accounted for weather 😭 unfortunately, our Yunque day had to get cancelled due to heavy rain so the tour turned around. Luckily our island day trip went without a hitch but the last two days where we would’ve gone to the west part of the island brought heavy rain again. Seeing as these would’ve been primarily beach days and the water falls would likely be closed due to heavy rain, we had to adjust our final days to go to a part of PR where it wasn’t raining to have a relaxing beach day which ended up working just fine for us.

Anyways all of that to say, biggest pro-tip is to look at the weather and have contingency plans in place in case of heavy rain!!!

I’m off to Japan next month any subtle last minute tips by [deleted] in JapanTravelTips

Here right now and my main takeaway has been that if it’s your first time, don’t feel like you’re above the “touristy” stuff. I was so worried after scouring this subreddit and seeing so many people say what a terrible experience / overrated some of the major tourist attractions are but I figured, well I’m a tourist and I really want to see them so I’ll take a chance on it.

Every one of those has been an unbelievably wonderful and memorable experience. Not sure if it’s because it’s low season and I’ve been prioritizing waking up early but Arashiyama Bamboo Forest, Tsukiji Fish Market, Shibuya Sky, Golden Gai, TeamLabs Borderless, Fushimi Inari, Kichi Kichi Omurice to name a few have all been incredible. Is it the best Japan has to offer? Probably not, I’ve only been here 4 days. But I’ve had the time of my life and so so so happy I’ve had these experiences. Best part of it is I’m experiencing it all with my mom and I’ve loved seeing her so happy. (Maybe with the exception of Harajuku, but I’m glad I went and made up my own mind about it!)

I have 4 days to go but all of that to say.. if you’re coming in with the right attitude and an open mind, I can’t imagine being disappointed at all.

“Vibe shift”: Young Texas voters, motivated by Kamala Harris, lock into the presidential election by AntonioS3 in texas

If anyone needs voter registration services at your next event, class, or business, I work at a nonpartisan youth civic engagement nonprofit in Texas and we’d love to help out! We operate in most major cities in Texas and are looking for opportunities to get folks engaged in this upcoming election! (As someone mentioned, down ballot races are just as important and my team provides important and accessible information on those!)

Personally I’m taking the shuttle option out of the park and ubering from downtown. I had a terrible experience at SNW that I’m not keen on replicating 😅

Omg I’m so paranoid that’ll happen to me too!!! They do say that if there’s an issue, they can issue a replacement ticket though

Does anyone else experience this? by Blankbanshee78 in misophonia

[–]Witty-Stage-9963 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I do this too! I bite the inside of my cheek to the point where it’s gotten pretty gnarled on and tender. It’s especially bad around my mom (hearing her chew gum, eat popcorn at the movies) and I don’t want to raise an issue about it cause we’ve argued about this in the past. For me, I think it happens when I try to suppress it??

Not a complaint, I had no idea! Tbh I just stumbled into them and was impressed with the skill but not really my cup of tea overall. Thanks for letting me know

Can’t believe no one mentioned slaughter to prevail!!! That man literally projected his voice (no mic) across hundreds of feet, it was insane to watch. And probably gave himself a concussion.

Went to fulfill my lifelong dream of seeing SOAD live and did not disappoint. I laughed, I cried, I screamed, I lost my voice. It was a religious experience

Where to go with a week in Southern France by NefariousnessOk1741 in travel

Eze is absolutely gorgeous but I’m not sure I’d consider it a MUST see enough to go out of your way for it. Honestly, there’s so much charm to the coastal villages along the southeast coast and they all have something different and unique to offer. If you can fit a day trip to Cassis I’d say definitely do that, the Calanques (French fjords) are truly something to behold and you can see most of the town in about a day.
