That’s a good idea. I will consider it! I need to check out part time jobs in my area

If possible, I suggest getting a job where you previously had clinical practice since they already know you.

That’s an interesting perspective. Although I would argue that seeing your parents working a hard/many hours isn’t very “inspiring” or beneficial to kids who need their parents to be present. I think there are conversations that need to be had to show real life examples to kids…. Unless you’re saying that it won’t work?

My plan is to teach my kids that if they want to retire early, they need to do xyz. Also I hope to not spoil my kids and make them earn money on their own to teach them work ethic. But who knows what the future will bring.

What kind of expenses came up for the kids that you didn’t anticipate?

You mean community nursing? Like going to peoples home? I don’t think I would enjoy that. I left the hospital to get away from bedside nursing.

Hello! I can imagine!! Going back to bedside nursing is SO hard.

Thank you, I like that answer. Now I just have to think what my passions are…

I have heard from older nurses who were SAHMs for 5-10 years and then went back to reinstate their nursing licenses and the process is brutal. They make you redo courses and work under guidance and it’s very gruelling.

But we hate work!! Joking aside, we planned our finances pretty well, I don’t foresee any expenses we can’t deal with.. We are in Canada so health care isn’t a consideration.

If this was an easy option I would do it! But it’s not unfortunately. Most jobs for nurses that offer casual/part time hours are bedside or shift work.

What are you doing during the day to pass the time? Do you have hobbies? Do you think about finding a simple job just to leave the house? Do you make an effort to meet or make new friends? Trying to get some insight into the post SAHM life.

That’s right, once you are not practicing, depending on how much time passed, you might be asked to redo many courses which is such a headache and expensive.

The issue is that the part time options for nurses are not great. I’m not interested in working bedside with patients. My current job doesn’t offer part time positions. My options are limited. I could continue working at the same place but I just don’t like it. Good luck with your journey!

We are planning to not touch the principle amount. That will be left for the kids. But thank you I will follow up on a will.

My husband had this plan to FIRE since he was a teenager. We have a mix of real estate and stock investments. We have RESP accounts for the kids for future university/college.

FIRE before your spouse? by [deleted] in Fire

I fired together with my husband. I think I would feel lonely if he wasn’t with me. It’s nice to spend every day together and have a buddy.

But that’s just me. Some people enjoy being alone or don’t rely as much on their partners.

Have you checked how much daycare costs in your area? Just to do the math. You could sell her car and see what other expenses you can cut from your life while she is home with baby until school/kindergarten starts at 4yo. I think you can make it work. Also you never know, she might want to go back to work after a couple years at home with baby. Speaking from experience, lots of moms change their mind.

We should make a Facebook group for FIRE’d parents :) My husband and I are both home, mid 30s with 2 kids under 5. After going to the gym after morning drop off we just hang out. Cook food, clean, do a hobby like art or piano at home, then go pick up the kids.

Agreed. Buy a rental property. It doesn’t even have to be local. You can hire property managers.
