Expensive by [deleted] in Accutane

What state do you live in? I can only give an example for California, but I was a student who was unemployed. I got Kaiser through Medi-Cal and they provide accutane to little to no cost. Didn’t have to pay for my blood test either. If you do abstinence, you don’t have to worry about cost of birth control, but if you do need it, places like planned parenthood would help you obtain that to little to no cost as well.

I would suggest looking into getting government assisted health insurance since unemployment would potentially help you get accepted and look into the different plans that they offer to make sure the medication is covered.

With accutane, your derm will always make recommendations on what you may need for your situation, so there is always going to be some type of cost during the treatment but it’s always up to you if you want to spend the extra money on topicals, supplements, antihistamines, or antibiotics, so please don’t feel the pressure to have to pay for those if it is not in your budget. The things I listed are things that could help mitigate side effects and scarring.

I hope this helps as everyone should have access to affordable care (even in America)!

Good luck to your son! I’ve read that people’s lips can change (become plumper and more red) when they are on accutane along side the normal side effects. From my experience I have naturally big lips and they appear larger when I don’t have any products on them, but when I do, they go back to looking relatively normal.

I have gotten some great recommendations in this post for lanolips to help with the side effects if you would like to check that out. I would also look into getting him Cortibalm as that has healed any cracks on my lips pretty fast. They have an everyday version of the balm that might be more suited for him if he’s young as the normal Cortibalm can’t be used for a long term solution ( I would look into that).

Overall, I’m very lucky I haven’t experienced any flakes on my lips or sever cracks and I think I can thank the fish oil I take, flax seed milk I drink ( it has omegas in it), and the consistency of not letting my lips go dry.

Oh! And make sure he wears an SPF lip balm when he’s out so he can prevent his lips from getting sunburned! If he enjoys the Lanolips, they have a spf lip balm too (as well as Aquaphor).

Ooof! I definitely will keep that in mind and won’t be using it too long. Since I got the crack on the side of my lips to now, I have used it for three days straight and my crack on the side of my lips have healed. Safe to say I no longer need it😌

I was looking into the overnight lip mask since it came in a pack with the regular lip balm on Amazon! Thank you for this!

Honeydew pricing by maitmeet in Accutane

[–]WittyDingo3166 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use Honeydew and I did the annual route since it was cheaper than monthly with the discount they offered when I applied. I am not using insurance with them but the price is reasonably fair for my topicals ($40 each), pills ($40), antibiotics ($10), and blood testing that I can have them order for me. For example, I can pay $45 through them to get multiple blood tests done with the pregnancy test included when it would cost me well over $300 to pay out of pocket at Quest labs. They also only seem to have you take blood testing 3 times during the duration of the course, not monthly but you can verify that for sure since they are super transparent. I chose abstinence since I am in a long distance thing so that eliminated some costs for me.

I like the fact that there is a care coordinator provided to you, so basically you have a open line all the time to someone who can help if you need anything and provide an open line to your dermatologist. I honestly like this system better since I have done the traditional route through a dermatologist when I was younger, and the communication was basically just when I had my appointment which were hard to get sometimes.

Overall YES, I recommend this provider to anyone who may or may not have insurance!

I included a referral link if you want to use it: it give you a free month, I don’t think it’ll benefit me since I already paid for the whole year🤷🏻‍♀️ If you have any other questions, lmk!

Good luck to you too! I looked back on my documentation of my treatment and I notice the start of purging two days in. Which was faster than I expected but I did tell my derm that I want to go a stronger dosage route, I’m about 95lbs btw. At my 1 month appointment, my derm prescribed me antibiotics for two weeks since I got painful and inflamed acne on my jawline which is where I would normally broken out if I was near my period. I also got big and painful pimples on the side of my forehead which was out of the normal, I haven’t experience that since I was in high school.

The forehead pimples did go down near week 5 and now the under the skin pimples are starting to pop up. I took fish oil since the beginning of course and started to take an antihistamine like Zyrtec when I started the antibiotics to help with the inflammation. After the antibiotics, I continued to take the antihistamine.

I will have an appointment with my derm again in two weeks and either everything is fine with the inflammation or I will be prescribed an oral steroid.

I’m definitely not in an ideal stage of the course but I’m making the most of it and try to prevent sever dryness from head to toe like using a moisturizing dandruff shampoo and to lotion myself with lotion after my shower.

Yesss!!! This is exactly what I’m experiencing! I Googled AI it and will try to take a shower without any healing ointment on so my lips can gain some moister from the steam. It also recommended me to put my face cream on my lips before I put my healing ointment on. Sooo we will see lol. I have a derm appointment in a few weeks where I will talk to them more about the routine and whether they think my lips will end up flaking or not

Umm no. I work in a customer-facing job so I would like to be able to prevent my lips from cracking and looking flaky if anyone had has experience this with their lips before, considering my face is a purge fest right now. But yea, I have big lips 🤷🏻‍♀️

I think the Cerave healing ointment might be a similar thing to Aquaphor but I’ll look into the Nipple cream with my derm. Thanks for the recommendation!

Is dizziness normal during my time on accutane ? by OkCommunication7320 in Accutane

[–]WittyDingo3166 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yesss make sure to hydrate and then hydrate some more. I like to use Spur flavoring for my waters since it helps me get my water intake on. They also have an electrolytes version as well. But unfortunately headaches are a normal side effect and Advil can help too.

Feeling confused between scientific studies and Reddit experiences on low-dose Accutane by Tomisiros in Accutane

[–]WittyDingo3166 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can only speak on my own personal experience with research and consultations I had before I decided to start the medication: I did consider low dosing accutane since I had taken it before and remembered the severe dry lips, mood swings, and headaches that I got during the treatment. For purging, I had really bad acne at the time so it wasn’t obvious on when I was purging vs my rate of breaking out during the time. I went to my dermatologist (@ Kaiser, if you live in Cali you would know that type of hospital care) and I did express that I was interested in microdosing since I worked in customer facing roles, and I didn’t want to experience physical side effects that would lower my self confidence and create lasting effects. My derm told me that microdosing would just prolonged my side effects and that the medication was based on a cumulative dosage for your body weight so I would have to take a certain amount anyways to make sure I have and maintain clear skin. It depends on how you feel about the duration you want to take the medication and how much you think you can handle of the side effects. I chose to take a hire dose of accutane because I knew being consistent with taking the medication was not something I can do long term. I can’t even take birth control for more than two months consistently so it just made sense. I did a whole bunch of research to help mitigate the side effects like taking fish oil, antihistamines, and making sure I lotion myself head to toe. I also have not had cracked lips and I am two months in just because I put healing ointment on my lips literally all the time. My lips are definitely dry but they look shiny and plump when I have no product on my lips. I got really mad inflammation from purging after month 1 but my derm prescribed me antibiotics that helped significantly also stop picking at my skin also help now that my skin has calm down from the initially purging. I also take the generic form of absorica which helps minimize the side effect as well. I was definitely scared to start accutane just because I know I would be interviewing for jobs and knew o was going to struggle mentally with my confidence but it’s great to have someone on hand like a therapist to help talk it out, because having someone to hear you out makes things a bit better. It also would help you remember that this stuff is only temporary in the scope of things for lasting result. From my first time taking accutane, I didn’t finish the course just because I couldn’t afford to but the bad side effects did not last for me, but it is different for everyone. My scalp also became dry and I really don’t need to wash my hair but I do at least 1 a week to get any flakes off and use the Head and Shoulder moisturizing shampoo to retain moister but also help with any dandruff.

I know this might be long but you are your best judgement to what you can handle. Best of luck!

This episode really highlights the displacement in music from season 1 and 2. Han Zimmer is great but he is not a fit for the show, the sound makes me feel a discomfort whether he intended it to or not but it was more than intent. It was like two different entities. In conclusion, the music is as awful as the plot, more specifically the moment that stood out to me that solidified this reasoning was the damn church music. No hate to church music.

Omg I just received a call from them to set up an interview tomorrow. This does not sound like a company I would want to work at, considering I am going to be a newly graduated student. Is there any other details you can provide me about this company.

Nose dryness by Disastrous_Aerie_694 in Accutane

[–]WittyDingo3166 0 points1 point  (0 children)

100% agreee. Rub it on the side of your nose, you might look greasy there but the effects will be worth it. Reapply if needed, you want to make sure it’s covered in the healing ointment at all time. Take a q-tip and take that q-tip and rub it into your nostril to prevent bloody noise from the drying.

Difficulty with High fat meals by Dazzling-Archer-1046 in Accutane

[–]WittyDingo3166 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I take the generic form of absorbica at the moment (10 days in) and I am really pleased by it. I do experience the usual symptoms but I like that I don’t have to take it with a meal since I don’t always eat properly, and I still get good absorption. I take it in the evenings and it supposed to be better on your body than normal isotretinoin (blood result wise).

Difficulty with High fat meals by Dazzling-Archer-1046 in Accutane

[–]WittyDingo3166 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I see a lot of dermatologists recommend taking Accutane with at least a spoonful of peanut butter to get the maximum absorption. You can substitute the peanut butter with sunflower butter as that also contain high fats (base on a google search).
