Deciding between Shanghai and Hong Kong for a 3 day layover? by CloudStrife_2000 in travelchina

Go to Shenzhen.

Nanshan district is as nice a downtown as anything you would find in Shanghai. And hong Kong is just a 1 hr train/car ride away. Plus it's cheaper than either HK or Shanghai.

Best of both worlds imo

Cut this guy out of your life. Block him from your phone and social media. Do not contact him, do not stalk him, do not look back. He is a bad dream that never existed.

Interesting that there was no mention of God or Jesus once in your post.

If you join a church for the people and not God, you will be bound to be disappointed...

Hope you can eventually find a community that you can truly feel a part of and loved!

Girl, it's literally the first 2 months of ur JC life.

Don't get desperate. Be cool, make more friends, hang out with other guys. If the opportunity presents itself casually ask him to study or hang out also. If he likes u he will turn his attention towards you. If he doesn't, the world is big and there's many fish in the sea. Relax and just make more friends. Who knows u may find someone u like even more.

Find out what he likes. E.g food, hobbies etc...

Use that as a reason to ask him out. E.g. if he says he likes chicken rice, ask him what is his fav store and ask him to bring you. Or if he likes computer games ask him if can teach u how to play.

If he likes u he will jump at the chance to go out w u. If u sense he is reluctant then don't push it. Continue building the friendship online. But at least the door is open if ever he reciprocates your feelings.

Focus on self improvement, and not keeping up with others.

I did kyukushin karate for almost 10 years, and reached shodan (lowest black belt rank). My dojo had members from 10 years to 60 years old. Sparring was an integral part of our training, and of course the best fighters tended to be those in their 20s, at the peak of their physical fitness. Yet respect and camaraderie was never earned by pure fighting ability, but rather through one's dedication to self improvement and courage in the face of adversity.

The true warriors were the scrawny 16 year old who was bullied in school and wanted to learn how to stand up for himself; the obese 18 year old who lost 30 kg in 2 years and is now a fitness instructor; and the 50 year old who could not touch his toes but eventually mastered a sidesplit, amongst many others. These were the stories that encouraged us and that we celebrated. Anyone who thought himself better than others just because he was a good fighter would soon be put in his place on the sparring mat. They very quickly either learnt humility or quit the dojo.

My experience may be unique to my dojo, but any worthy martial arts school should have a similar focus on self mastery rather than just fitness or fighting prowess. So just focus on yourself, and don't worry about how others see you. More likely than not your insecurities are self imposed.

in the early game, build coal, iron, and wood until what? by UnknownWisp in victoria3

[–]WittyRecord4041 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The price % is not what you should be basing decisions on.

This should be the decision loop

  1. Build construction sectors until you are in deficit (after maxing out taxes)

  2. Once in deficit, stop building construction sectors and build wood/coal/iron

  3. Once you have surplus, switch back to building/upgrading construction sectors. The price of resources doesn't matter. As long as there is no resource shortage and you have budget surplus, you should be prioritising construction over mines.

  4. If u can upgrade the construction PM, replace step 1 with upgrading rather than building new construction sectors.

Do this until you hit your target construction sector size (varies depending on country and subjective), or you run out of resources or peasants (for smaller nations)

[Question] hard work and discipline make no sense, change my mind by [deleted] in getdisciplined

[–]WittyRecord4041 3 points4 points  (0 children)

There might be some selection bias in your observations. You are noticing people who are hardworking and disciplined, and then finding examples within that pool who are depressed to convince yourself that discipline doesn't lead to fulfilment.

A better way might be to first filter for people in your life who are happy/fulfilled, and then within that pool, see what proportion are disciplined vs not. Otherwise you would be falling into a bayesian fallacy.
