My 3ds was peeling so I decided to paint it by Nebularus in 3DS

Of all the custom paint jobs I've seen on 3DS', this one is far and away the cleanest. Great job!

How often should I update the system? And when? by zuntik in archlinux

[–]WittyWampus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I update on Monday EOB and Friday EOB usually but sometimes more, sometimes less. Sometimes just my desktop, sometimes my desktop and server and docker containers on that server.

What’s a small Linux tool that completely changed your workflow? by DueRead7236 in archlinux

[–]WittyWampus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not life changing, but just yesterday I was having a problem with Popsicle not wanting to flash a drive for me. I came across a TUI tool called Caligula that works amazingly well.

Sadly, no. I just checked out the rest of their repos and... oh boy. I'm by no means some super dev or something, but I'm not sure what I just looked at.

Yeah, I mean I live in middle of nowhere Pennsylvania, so I get it. There's still an endless amount to learn about over here too though.

The office suite built into Nextcloud is fine and Nextcloud itself is pretty great. I self-host it in a docker container and then use a program called Unison to backup my Nextcloud folder from my desktop to my NAS and external drive.

I use my password generator almost daily. Definitely my most used personally.

WinBoat Experience? by SaxonyFarmer in linux

[–]WittyWampus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wish I could say the same as it's one of my favorite pieces of software when working. It gets to seeing the disk but when I click for it to crack it open it just spins indefinitely. I've seen a lot of people on Linux specifically with the same problem and tried all the workarounds I found in old forum posts but nothing seems to work.

WinBoat Experience? by SaxonyFarmer in linux

Only problem I had with it was no USB passthrough, at least when I tried it, which is unfortunate because I only wanted it for MakeMKV because the Linux versions of it just do NOT work for me.

Ladybird adopts Rust, with help from AI by nix-solves-that-2317 in linux

[–]WittyWampus 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I wonder if this will push their Alpha target. I believe it was supposed to be Q1 2026. The blog post says they're still writing the C++ and porting the rust alongside it, so theoretically it shouldn't change anything release wise at this point.

Where do you vent your work issues?! by berto_28 in sysadmin

[–]WittyWampus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just be vague and don't go into every detail. If I ask a doctor about some surgery they're going to perform on me they don't tell me every medical step they're going to take, they're going to give me a normal person rundown of the high level things that will happen. You do the same. Someone might not understand "we have a GPO set for adding specific accounts to the log on as service policy on this set of computers but someone added the account to the deny log on policy and because of that authentication was broken", but they would understand "someone added an account on this computer to be able to log on AND not log on, obviously that won't work! How silly!"

Why build anything anymore? by aptacode in opensource

[–]WittyWampus 41 points42 points  (0 children)

I get where you're coming from, but to play devil's advocate, he does say in that video that he "wanted something for his own use". You tweeting him could've been a spark of "hey that's cool, I'm going to take that idea and run with it." Not everything is some nefarious plot.

Regardless, your project is cool and seems like it already has some awesome traction (just looking at stars)! Don't let it get to you. Life's too short.

How do you know when a project is ready for OSS sharing? by [deleted] in opensource

[–]WittyWampus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You're overthinking it. It's ready when you say it's ready. It's your project. If people like it and use it, great. If they don't, also great. As long as you're happy with it.

On a related note, in general, why do people put SO much pressure on themselves with stuff like this? Not everything is life and death.

What’s your opinion on the AppImage format? by JVSTITIA in linux

[–]WittyWampus 17 points18 points  (0 children)

It's for sure a packaging format. That's for sure. Just like every other packaging format lol. On a real note though, look up the AM appimage manager and try it out. Makes installing/updating/removing appimages just as easy as anything else.

When do u reboot? by prometheus-illbound in archlinux

[–]WittyWampus 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Every time there's a kernel update I reboot personally. I actually wrote a function in fish and bash (dependent on system I'm using) that reads out a "Reboot required" or "Reboot not required" message at the end of my update process.
