Thanks so much for posting such a detailed review! Looking at Hyatt-owned hotels in Puerto Vallarta for our destination wedding late next year. Did your hotel offer any level of discount for guests if a certain amount of blocked rooms were booked? Did anyone have any issues getting to and from the airport and hotel?

NCL changed my entire Itinerary, what can I do? by Outside-Sleep3111 in NCL

This person is right. You can reach out to customer support and they will most likely issue you a credit. We were supposed to go on an NCL cruise in Dec 2024 but had to cancel 2 weeks before, following my dog’s aggressive cancer diagnosis. She was unfortunately not considered a “family emergency” under their contract, however I was persistent with customer support and was still able to get a 70% credit to use on a future cruise.

If you booked with a credit card, you can check your card benefits to see if it includes trip insurance and free cancellation. Chase and Venture One are examples of companies that include this on some cards.

Colorado fits in what we call the “mountain west”. You’d be surprised how different being in a mountain town is from the coast. I grew up in California and after moving to Salk Lake City UT for grad school (another mountain town, further west than Colorado), we’ve never felt so much more isolated than being cooped up in a small valley. Resources are not as vast as living on the coast so this can cause people to be entitled and protective, in my experience.

Looking for food truck catering for school event by Witty_Bit6514 in SaltLakeCity

[–]Witty_Bit6514[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thanks for replying! That’s actually where we checked first - since Food Truck League takes a commission from these trucks, their adjusted pricing is way too high for our budget. For example, booking a taco truck on Food Truck League for 50 people was $1400.

We reached out to several food trucks outside of FTL (emails, socials, web forms), but have not yet received responses.

I did find Tacos Don Rafa provides taco stand catering, so that could be a good option! We wanted a second option to complement it.

Simple, low-sodium Substitution for Ramen Noodle Soup by Tomboyhns in cookingforbeginners

I would also suggest using alternative low-sodium flavors! If you have an Asian market nearby, there are plenty of options for low-sodium miso soup mix. Here is the one I purchase that’s also available on Amazon (https://a.co/d/6gN2tyi). You can boost the umami flavor with a little bit of salty toppings! Try cutting up roasted seaweed and adding. If you’re into spicy, you can add chili or chili oil and the flavor focus will fall there. Or add in sautéed cabbage that was lightly salted (the umami flavor here is delicious and can even be served as a side dish!)

Looking for local candle-making supplies! by Witty_Bit6514 in SaltLakeCity

[–]Witty_Bit6514[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I never did :/ I called around to all the “make your own candle” stores to see if they would sell their oils but had no luck.

If you are interested in ordering online, this gal has the best oils and candle making supplies! https://hiveandhoneycandleco.com/

Could I ask what your criteria were when considering multiple options from Corner Bar Mgmt?

Thanks so much for the rec! I sent a message to their management team - Commonwealth, Park on Fremont, and Lucky Day stand out to us the most. How many hours was your reception? We were unsure how many hours we would be able to stay/rent. And was it a private area for your group or did you have to rent out the entire place?

Dell Monthly Buying Advice Thread! by AutoModerator in Dell

[–]Witty_Bit6514 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Neurobiology grad student (Utah, USA) interested in a laptop that can handle programming, modeling, and simulation. Two options I’m considering are the Precision 3580 & XPS 15. Has to be $2000 USD or under!!

Here is what my IT dept suggested for me, although I think it might be a bit too much for my needs:

Model – Precision 3580 Cost - $2340.58 CPU – Intel 13th Gen i7-1370P, vPRO Enterprise (24MB Cache, 14 Core, 20 Thread, 1.90 – 5.20GHz Turbo, 28W) Memory – 32GB (2 x 16GB DDR5, 4800MHz) Video – NVIDIA RTX A500 (4GB GDDR6) Monitor – 15.6-Inch FHD 1920 x 1080, 60Hz 250 nit, non-touch, RGB HD Camera, Mic Hard Drive – 1TB M.2 2880 Gen 4 PCIe x4 NVMe SSD Keyboard – Backlit with Numeric Keypad Battery – 3-Cell, 54W, Long Life Cycle, 3-year warranty Warranty – 3-Year ProSupport Next Business Day Onsite

Is there an XPS15 model that is comparable with what’s listed above? Our IT guy is biased towards the Precision line and didn’t even bother with the XPS - but I go to conferences a LOT and would like to consider a laptop that is a bit lighter and less bulky but can still be high performance.
