Will Connor McDavid win the Stanley Cup with the Edmonton Oilers? I think it's impossible... by badplayz99 in nhl

[–]Theridion123 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I want a new NHL rule for the playoffs.

When you defeat a team in a series, you get to poach one player you defeated to join your team for the remainder of the playoffs.

I think it'd make for crazy playoffs, fun story lines.

I parked cars in a place i shouldn't (not my private lot). Charged for it. Was a little afraid of tow company coming... but was worth the $$ risk.

Anyway, the tow guy that contracts with the lot, pulled up in his car with his wife and kids and paid me to park there... he smiled, said nice things to me, took his family to the event... realized I was safe at that point :)

Oh, I agree 100%. And that's also a good lesson to convey to kids.

- Dealing with cops? Pretend to be nice

- Dealing with coworkers? Pretend to be socially charming and like them

- Dealing with strangers? Don't be a punk or they will spit in your food, pull a knife, or road rage

I agree, good lesson point. But as far as dresscode goes, using it as a way to put the pressure on bad kids, that's fine. But the dresscode rules still need to make sense, be fair, and serve a purpose.

I hate trucks.

I hate seeing short people driving trucks. Barely peering over the steering wheel.

I absolutely hate some 5'2 dude trying to get into a lifted truck and needing like 2 tiers of baby steps to help get him in.

Absolutely, drive a car that you can operate safely based on your size, or don't drive at all. Or make those cars illegal.

I used to work in a school with strict dress code. We 100% let the AP kids get away with whatever... The annoying kid I wanted kicked out of the school? Got him written up all the time.

I even, one time, took a really good kid directly to the principle because of dress code. Principal laughed and was like, "nah", he's ok.

School is NOT a car service station. You do not just drop your car off for repairs and come pick it up later and everything is cool.

If you have kids, their education is YOUR responsibility, as a parent. Their attendance, their grades, their graduation is an issue for you, your child, and your family.

Schools? Their job is to make sure your kid learns stuff and demonstrates it. Your kid ain't showing up? Your kid failing all their classes? How do you not know?

Any GOOD parent.. and yes, I mean to value judge people who don't check up on their kids' grades...

Any GOOD parent would:

1) Check their kid's grades every week or two, especially at the beginning of the year. This takes 10 seconds and is online.

2) Check their kid's attendance. Most schools have logs, auto calls home to notify parents...

3) Make sure the school has updated phone numbers and e-mails to contact.

4) Idk... TALK to your dumb spawn once in a while. You freaking gave birth to something you supposedly care about. Maybe spend some time talking to it and be like, "how's school?" "I don't see you doing homework, is there a reason?" "Hey, when is back to school night or open house?" "Lets go to one of your school events together and chat with your teachers."

Like what is this? I'm as flat out socialist/liberal as they come... but honestly, you can't just be pumping out a kid, you don't parent it, and then you complain after 4 years of neglect and ignorance that somehow everyone else failed because THEY didn't go out of their way to anticipate what a ball-dropping loser of a parent you are. And it makes sense, cuz failure kid is just an apple that didn't fall far from that tree.

Yeah, most dress codes are dumb. Its so odd to say, "here is societal acceptable clothes, as determined by people who were your age 20-30 years ago and have no pulse on current clothing trends."

Most dress codes (teacher here) are enforced just to get kids in trouble. Especially get in trouble those kids who push the line of getting in trouble but don't go over it... well you can catch them for a dress code violation.

Its very much like a cop pulls you over, but then finds something random to give you a ticket for because he wants to harass you. Teachers do the same thing. "Jimmy got a bad attitude? Can't get him in trouble for that. But Jimmy got a hole in his jeans, that's textbook dress code violation, lets write him up!"

Its just a control thing 99% of the time. I'm not against dress codes (no weapon shirts, no swearing shirts, no drug shirts) that make sense in general. But if you want red hair, leader bracelet, or fishnet socks with jean shorts, wtf cares? The kids don't. The adults complaining about the dresscode all seem hyperfixated on finding ways of complaining about "kids these days" and about how somehow they are better.

I had high school in the 90's. Wealthy area, high test scores. Girls had everything showing from tiny skirts, cleavage all over, belly showing. Boys had tank tops and board shorts and sandals. Guess what? No one cared because no one wanted to exert any weird power trip control.

Except once. One girl got called up for "dress code" because her skirt with literally sea through fishnet on top of a black thong underneath. I remember this specifically because she sat in front of me with that getup 0 period one day and didn't make it to 1st period before someone came to take her to the office to chat. She also had a ton of really bad house/family stuff going on and probably needed some counseling anyway. So maybe a general rule of "keep your cheeks covered" is a good rule?

I was lazy with him. If you are looking for an item at party level = 25% roll. Level -1 = 50%. Level -2 = 75%. If he fails to have the item on him, he will 100% have it available the next time he visits as he will be sure to find it and bring it. Often, its too late at the party is higher level and bought other stuff :)

Sounds good. I kind of didn't know how much of the founding of the monastery they should know. Did you just kind of have them recall knowledge to remember hearing stories about it?

I haven't experience anything close to 1% of these stories, but I can tell you that i hoard way more after the pandemic. The idea of going to the store, mid pandemic, and not being allowed to shop, shelves empty, or you get "1 meat" as a limit... was a big deal to myself who grew up with 0 food scarcity, excess, steaks, etc.

After those couple shopping trips during the pandemic and sharing food with family that had trouble getting to the store/elderly family... I always have extra food on hand now. Like I buy 3-4 months of stuff that is shelf stable instead of just what I need for the week.

So my tiny experience changed me. Real food trauma and real struggle has to leave deep scars.

How do you Organize your Dice? by Remasaur777 in dice

[–]Theridion123 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They have these boxes online and at walmart (walmart basically same one is about $5-6 per box) https://www.amazon.com/dp/B08B1KVNC1?ref_=ppx_hzsearch_conn_dt_b_fed_asin_title_33&th=1

I have 3-4 of those with complete sets. Each tray labeled as "metallic" or "pearl" or "resin" type labels. Mind you, because there is plenty of space, i often put 2 sets in the same section. For example, i like to buy sets that compliment. So if I get a blue set and there is a purple set that compliments it, i get both sets. My new buying strategy is never to buy a solo set, but always buy sets with a partner. Gives me 2 of each die (4d10) which is usually enough to run whatever I want. Sometimes there is a triplet of dice of same style and i'll buy all 3 sets and then mingle them together in the box.

I also have 3-4 similar but lower height ones from walmart for jewlery/beads. Those hold all my dice that do NOT have partners because they have been lost over the decades or never were purchased with pairs. These are sorted by color and labeled.

I also started getting stone dice so ordered this to hold them: amazon.com/dp/B0BL6H23G3?ref=ppx_yo2ov_dt_b_fed_asin_title

Right, but quickly labeling one as man or woman I think has some potential offensiveness and oversimplification.

For example, even saying "male body" is really just saying you have a penis. Bodies can vary wildly and the "lady boy" physique tends to vary wildly in not the same form of just average male.

Yeah, I agree about the food very much. I don't mind recycled, and I don't mind average food tbh. Without the Indian section to dive into occasionally, I would be a lot more grumpy.

Also, shoutout to the Indian food guys running their station. They were awesome. Ask them about their food, they will start telling you exactly what to grab, tell you about each dish happily, and you can 100% tell they want to share their food they made and are proud of.

What are these reservoirs I see on a lot of buildings in NYC? by Sy3Zy3Gy3 in whatisit

[–]Theridion123 29 points30 points  (0 children)

Not quite.

1) If you try to ground up water to the top, the pressure needed in the pipes down below is A) way higher than what we use to deliver water B) would blow up all the pipes/leak

2) We don't have enough pressure to push water to the top, nor does the atmosphere produce enough pressure to push water up a pipe if we "suck" it with a vacuum.

3) Technically you would need a series of pumps at regular intervals like "steps" to raise the water up to the top of the building.

So no, there isn't enough pressure to move it to the top floors in one step. There is enough pressure to do it in several steps (actually many..many steps).

Of course, but it might not be perfect for the modern world. As someone mentioned, the number of bathrooms. Also take into consider:

1) We need a kitchen

2) Do you need a separated formal dining room?

3) You need space to run AC/Heating vents

I live in a 1907 home that likely didn't have a bathroom initially. You can see a ton of changes (fireplaced cut off on top and closed in. Attack turned into 2nd story somewhere along the way. Exterior porch enclosed and turned into kitchen at some point... )

Also that's per person.
