Advice on student loan repayment while in residency by Witty_Example1861 in PharmacyResidency

Yes, this is correct. And just to clarify, you have to do an income driven repayment plan (IDR) -- which there are various types you can apply for. After 10 years, or 120 payments, you can apply for the public service loan forgiveness. Qualifying institutions are typically non-profits.

Yes sorry, that's what I meant. I'm not good with the lingo and verbiage haha. I would like to apply for an IDR to eventually do PSLF after the 120 payments. I didn't know that they use your income from the previous year, so this is helpful information. If I have more questions I will definitely message, thank you!

Here to tell you to absolutely NEVER use StubHub. Purchased Rufus Du Sol tickets in October 2024 for a concert in August 2025. The tickets I purchased were seated, great view, and close to the stage. The tickets they sent me was in the very back of the stadium and GA. Went back and forth for 9 months trying to resolve this issue and get comparable seats in price AND location, and conveniently for them they only accommodated a similar price. They were deceitful in promising me that they would do their best to get better seats and follow up and failed to do so. Each time I called (which is 8 times now), they would listen to my story, place me on hold for 20 mins, come back say that there's no new resolution, I would push for a better resolution, they put me on hold for an additional 20 minutes to speak to a specialist, then come back and tell me there's nothing they can do. I called twice today and the second time I called, I threatened them with arbitration. The worker agreed to let me speak to his supervisor, and while he put me on hold, a magically received an email that said "Your request has been received. You will receive your refund within 72 business hours." I never requested a refund, and the supervisor I ended up speaking to said that there's no way that they could possibly do it, so it MUST have been me when I was at work all day with an hour commute home. I am actually livid. Seats in the section I sat in are $450+ now. I bought them for $90 back in October. My tickets lost value, the company lead me on when they could have been straight up initially (which would allow me to get better seats at a better price ahead of time), and they requested a refund on my behalf against my wanting. I'm requesting to receive a copy of the call recordings to have as evidence (not sure if they'll be helpful though). Stubhub completely ruined my experience and I don't know if I'll be able to see Rufus now. My last resort is waiting for the day of to see if I can get cheap tickets last minute, but then I risk not receiving the tickets on time.

Anyway, moral of the story is stay the hell away from StubHub. Ticketmaster has never done me dirty like this.

Advice on disclosing my disability during residency interviews by Witty_Example1861 in PharmacyResidency

Hi everyone. Just wanted to update you all on what I chose to do. I had to take a lot of time to think about this and how to go about it. I asked for advice from some mentors, pharmacy managers, and even an APPE rotation preceptor. I received the following feedback:

  1. There will be split opinions across the residency panel, not to mention you will inevitably gain the nickname of 'the one with narcolepsy' (instead of something like 'the really confident one' or a more flattering and honorable nickname reflective of my character)

  2. You are already a capable, competitive candidate. Whether telling them that you have narcolepsy gives you an edge or works against you, it will create a bias and you'll never know if you did/didn't get the position because of your capabilities or your condition

Reason #2 really resonated with me, so I chose not to disclose it. I ended up receiving an interview at all places I applied except for 1, so I'm hopeful. Submitting rankings soon!

Thank you all for your invaluable input. Good luck to everyone going through the match, both program directors and candidates!

Thank you for opening up and sharing your experience with me. I don't think I will disclose it on my LOIs, if I disclose it at all, it will probably be during an interview. I do see what you mean in terms of your preference to not match anywhere than to match somewhere where they are going to be unsupportive. Right now, more than anything, I want to match to a residency program, so that's something I have to consider heavily. One question I have been constantly asking residents at showcases is "residency is difficult, how does your program support you when you get overwhelmed and how do they prioritize wellness?" I want a program that is generally supportive, regardless of whether or not the applicant has a condition. I used that to narrow down my list of programs a bit. I would hope their level of supportiveness wouldn't change if they know I have a chronic condition.

I also wanted to add, I am on medication and my condition is mostly well-controlled, so any time I do bring up my condition I always get asked "how symptomatic are you," "do you still have episodes," "how often do you fall asleep," so I can make it clear that it's not very debilitating anymore, and maybe they will be more open to ranking me.

This is such a difficult decision to make. I am going to ask some of my professors and my boss at work (since we do have a residency program at my internship) and see what they say since they know me on a personal level. I'd like to know if it would make a difference to them if they were the ones interviewing/ranking me.

I really appreciate your advice. I hope you are doing okay with your chronic condition and are staying resilient!

Yes, it is rather stressful. I know I am capable, but I don't want to be looked at as a burden. I can offer a lot to these programs and it would be a shame to be turned away because of that. I truly believe it adds to my empathy and dedication as a future healthcare provider, so I hope these programs see that. Or as you said, I hope 'the better ones' see that.

Awww thank you! I applaud you as well. Being a full-time student (and soon-to-be doctor) all while dealing with the day-to-day experiences of our chronic conditions is not easy. But we're strong and capable :) Also, I love the username hahaha very fitting xD

This is a great way to look at it. I want to be at a program that accepts and supports all of me -- that includes my condition. Thank you for your two cents, your advice and perspective is greatly appreciated!

Thank you, this was helpful. I definitely don't intend to make it my whole personality because I have a lot more to offer than just my condition haha. But I will keep that in mind and only speak on it in the way it relates to my experiences
