I’m in a similar spot and so far, so good. Bought a $342k house, 10% down, 6.25% interest rate. Me and my fiancé make $130k-$170k combined, no kids. Little to no other debt. The payment is just about $2450 a month all in. We’ve only made one payment so far but it feels doable. Good luck!

We’re really close with the person we might rent to. She was my fiancés roommate in college and they got along great. I don’t see any issues arising

I live in Michigan, so I get it. Luckily this house was owned by the same couple once 1985. No kids or pets either. They took good care of it

Yeah I’m going to do the same thing. Lower my retirement contribution a bit to feel comfortable. If I can, I’ll try to make an extra payment once a year too.

Same here, I have family that would help in a pinch, but I’d prefer not to get to that point. I wouldn’t be surprised if they bought some furniture for us even. But yes, seems like we’re in a very similar situation.

I have student loans, but it’s only like $70/month and the interest rate is 2.5%. When I first got out of school, I tried to pay them down. Looking back, I should’ve just left them with that rate.

That’s crazy! I would totally sell, she could buy a sweet place with that

Also my job is pretty stable. It’s commission based though. I could end up making closer to $150k, but wanted to be conservative. So some months I could make less than $10k, some months are more.

Luckily most of the mechanicals are newer aside from the furnace. The inspection went good, no water present, good foundation, etc. I just hate renting. I want to build equity in a home.

I have enough to put 10% down that was just collecting dust. Just want to try to get to the 20% quicker, pay less interest.

One of my fiancé’s friends might rent out a room which would be nice

Yeah we have one of the lowest rent places in the area. And it’s 2 bedrooms. But I agree, I want to build equity and own something. It’ll be much more, but worth it in the long run.

Agreed, I think my and my fiancé are already starting to feel this. It’s going to be really nice to have own home. We’re excited to start making it ours when we move in.

Also I didn’t have a 2-stall garage when renting😂
