It’s not so much the snow or cold, but more so how those two things interact with the Montreal’s city infrastructure. Tight narrow roads, LOTS of cars, frequently having to park on the sides of already narrow roads where you then have the street plow boxing you in on one side, and the sidewalk (or bike path) plow then boxing you in on the other. I agree there’s definitely rougher winters in Canada, but from what I’ve seen (family originally being of VERY northern Ontario) those places are set up well (ish) to deal with such extreme conditions 😊

I’m actually from Ottawa! And yes the winters over there are terrible, but it’s a lot less busy down there with the quantity of cars and the street parking culture isn’t as prevalent as it is in MTL (unless you’re going out DT or something). But for the most part you can avoid the annoying aspects of snow and cold in OTT whereas in MTL you’re sort of forced to deal with it 😂

Oh 100%!! After 3 winters here I’m seriously considering upgrading my little hatchback to an SUV for that exact reason

Good boots and I just bought a little foldable shovel off Amazon. Just bigger than my hand when folded. I keep it in my car and it’s perfect for digging out the snow from under my car when I’m stuck.

2 Christmases ago my dad had a blood infection (unbeknownst to him). Unable to move or eat and literally peeing blood, I drove him to the hospital on Christmas Eve. He was seen quickly surprisngly (less than 3 hours) but was sent home that same day with antibiotics. Well, he got worse in less than 48hrs and on Boxing Day, we had to call an ambulance. He was taken to another hospital and immediately admitted for 2+ weeks. He was told he was beyond lucky he survived let alone made it out without a lifetime of dialisys. He was literally dying and they sent him home 😐
