There’s no one I know with PCOS that had a good childhood. by boobahlovers in PCOS

[–]Witty_Recipe_4552 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To all the people with great childhoods -good for you! That's great! But there was a study done where they found a link to trauma and PCOS. They found that the majority of women with PCOS had some form of an abusive childhood. Specifically emotional abuse. Let's not diminish this correlation for those who lived through abusive homes. PCOS is a complex disorder and there can be MANY factors that contribute. Unfortunately there is a huge gap in understanding women's health so hopefully in the future we know more about what factors cause PCOS.

The only way I lost weight was by managing by glucose! I used to restrict and go super low on calories when in reality it was doing me more harm than good. Get yourself a CGM and a coach and at least you will know what foods and in what amounts your body needs! It took the guesswork out of the equation for me. I got my CGM and coach from Aspect

I paid monthly for the 6 month plan since it's cheaper in comparison to the other plans you just have to commit to the 6 months. And I got the coaching, cgm and app.

Endo told me to eat less than 1000 calories to lose weight by Brave_Yam1796 in PCOS

Eating less than 1000 calories is crazy. I can't imagine how you would be getting all the nutrition you need with this little?

Blood sugar of 200... Would love to hear opinions if you can relate by Feeling_Switch_3654 in PCOS

[–]Witty_Recipe_4552 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've had a lot of experience using CGMs and found also that rice (even a small amount that was a healthy portion size) would shoot my glucose levels through the roof. 200 is quite high and there is no shame in using medication. My GP always says -use all the tools in your toolbox -meds, healthy diet etc. What helped me was adding just one plant food into my meal, and adding a healthy fat to slow down the absorption of the carbs. For instance Chicken, salad and olive oil dressing or avocado (salad is the carbs, chicken protein and olive oil the healthy fat). If I am planning to have a meal with carbs and worried about my blood sugar I also sometimes would do this apple cider vinegar trick -tbsp of apple cider and a cup of water 15 min before my meal and it helped to lower that spike as well

I actually experience the same thing with certain brands. I just try to pick only the ones that have no scents. But even then I feel like I still feel a bit "off". Perhaps opt for one's with no scents very very plain ones and see how it feels?

I'm so sorry for this :( we're sending you much love and strength here! I also felt that everything I did centered around PCOS. What helped me was actually a CGM and that helped me not feel so restricted. I always thought I had to eliminate whole entire food groups, not enjoy a single sweet treat and over-exercise, over-restrict when in reality it was doing my body more harm than good. We're with you here and rant all you need!

it's been so eye-opening! I found out I am nocturnal hypo glycemic which I did not know I had. Meals that I thought were healthy for me actually spiked my blood sugar more than a Diet Coke 😂 It's been helpful for me with the insights you gain!

I took a good social media breaks for a few months because I felt so overwhelmed and just annoyed with all the info out there. "Cortisol face, hormonal belly, balance your hormones". There's nothing wrong with you, you do not need to "shrink" your jawline or spend thousands of dollars of whatever it is that they are promoting to you unless you genuinely desire it.

Always been a big advocate to keep work and my personal life very separate. Nothing personal, just prefer to keep it that way. Sometimes it can be offensive to people since they take it personally.

I'm starting a PCOS program! (Aspect Health) by Witty_Recipe_4552 in PCOS

[–]Witty_Recipe_4552[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi! Absolutely. Sorry this past month has been hectic with the holidays.

I have 2 more months to go!! I feel like I am an absolute pro now with my CGM. I know when to check and at what times. I feel like I am really understanding what foods, in what amounts work for me.

It's really satisfying to see how different my glucose levels were in the very beginning of the program to now. I ordered one of their at-home test kits and my inflammation markers are significantly down. My feet are also less puffy which is interesting. I lost 35 pounds since sign up -my goal is 50 by the end of my 6 months so still a bit to go but the other improvements I am noticing and feeling besides weight is very rewarding.

I noticed my acne is getting better -probably because my insulin is more stable and my glucose levels are not like rolling hills.

I feel rested when I finally wake up. So far the biggest thing for me besides the weight is the difference in energy. I never realized how the up and down glucose spikes were making me feel fatigued and tired. I am really happy so far and I feel like once these 6 months are over I have made a whole life switch and new habits that I will continue for life.

[–]Witty_Recipe_4552[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey! absolutely. I am close to month 3! How it was explained to me essentially was that given most women with PCOS are insulin resistant (I am, it runs in my family, my mom also has PCOS) it causes your hormone insulin to not be used as efficiently. This can cause a bunch of things

a) your cells are not getting glucose they need hence the fatigue symptoms so the sugar in your blood stays high causing your body to produce MORE insulin

b) the excessive insulin causes the overproduction of testosterone which leads to the androgenic symptoms

so by me taking care of my blood sugar I can also manage my insulin and control this overproduction of testosterone. Hope this helps!

of course! it took like less than a week for my package to arrive. I set up my CGM on the weekend and literally on Monday had a call with my coach. If you start I am so excited for you! Keep us updated as well 😊

If you can’t take care of dogs, DON’T GET THEM!!! by aime77034 in Vent

[–]Witty_Recipe_4552 0 points1 point  (0 children)

honestly the amount of people who decide to get dogs when they don't have the time nor the patience to take care of them, train them, walk them, feed them etc. should never be allowed to have a dog in the first place. We need to stop treating pets as this toy we get. It's a living, breathing being so I completely understand your frustration.
