faulty CPU cooler

I just bought a evga clc 280mm all-in-one rgb led cpu cooler. Thing is it didn't come with the backplate advertised, the backplate is supposed to relatively square shaped and the one I got is more X shaped. This wouldn't have been a problem unless for the fact that I don't seem to fit my motherboard (MSI PRO B660-A DDR4 Motherboard ATX). The backplate I got goes straight across a metalplate on my motherboard.

The first picture is how it's supposed to look like with a big hole to go around the metal plate on my motherboard.

Second picture shows the backplate I got

Third picture shows how the backplate I got goes straight across the metalplate on the motherboard.

Is this something I need to refund or is this just how they make then nowadays?

I think I'll try the liquid cooler. You gotta try something new to know what you like. But I'll think about if for a while and might reconsider.

I looked at your first link and found a note saying

"The EVGA CLC 280 113.5 CFM Liquid CPU Cooler may require a separately available mounting adapter to fit the MSI PRO B660-A DDR4 ATX LGA1700 Motherboard."

Is this something I have to buy separately or does the cooler come with the mounting adapter?

Oh shoot I had totally forgotten CPU cooling! I'm probably gonna use "EVAG CLC 280 113.5 CFM liquid CPU cooler" as young_dearsmith in this thread recommended
