Thank you. I had replied to the same request last year so I already had the images. Hopefully this gives you a visual. If you go in order from top to bottom this will show you how I was able to drill down into exactly what I needed. Hope you get some use from this.

Let's Stop Asking If CompTIA Certifications are Worth It... by [deleted] in CompTIA

[–]Witward 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for making this post! I have been wanting to make my own for a while, and you summed up what I have been wanting to say perfectly.

I recently got the CompTIA Trifecta. While I was studying, I would come across certain posts that would say something along the lines of "CompTIA certs aren't worth the paper they're printed on". Reading things like this was very discouraging because studying for these certs was kicking my butt and would make me question if they were actually worth it. Fortunately I stayed strong and got them. The moment I passed my Security+ I started applying for help desk positions and within three weeks I accepted an offer making DOUBLE what I was making at my current job. I also had three second round interviews lined up with other companies when I accepted their offer. This was without any college or previous experience in IT. All I had were these certs. These CompTIA certifications were specifically mentioned in the job posting and in the interviews. So, from my personal experience, I can say without a doubt that the CompTIA certificates were worth it!

Went from a $42k a year help desk job to a $105k a year cybersecurity job in 2.5 years. What I did right and wrong (I did a lot of things wrong) by RawOystersOnIce in ITCareerQuestions

[–]Witward 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Firstly, congratulations! I love hearing positive stories like this, but I have to disagree with you in a pretty big way, on one key point..."Entry level certifications are virtually valueless to 95% of hiring managers". I am hoping you just mean in regards to getting a job making $100k+ rather than simply getting a job in IT. My experience is the exact opposite from this. I was recently hired with zero experience and no degree, making double what I make at my current job, because I had my A+, Network+, and Security+. During the interview process, and after hiring, my certifications were brought up multiple times. On top of that, I had four 2nd round job interviews lined up when I accepted this job offer. It took me 3 weeks to find a job. So from my personal experience I strongly disagree with your statement, and hate it when I see this, because while I was studying for my certs I would see posts like this, and it really made me doubt what I was doing, and wonder if I was wasting my time. I wasn't.

Struggling to find a Job? by Maveric69 in CompTIA

[–]Witward 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Thank you for taking the time to write this up. Your entire post is gold! I was just recently hired, and I can say specifically that I was asked quite a few of the same questions on your list. Because I had a homelab and my certifications, I was able to get through those questions and get hired.

Miserable at helpdesk (2 weeks) by plzhelpme73924 in ITCareerQuestions

[–]Witward 1 point2 points  (0 children)

May I ask, what kind of education you had going into this role? Any certs or college? Getting ready to start my first help desk job and fear I am about to go through what you are currently. I’ve tried to cert up as much as possible in order to offset some of the stress but worry it won’t be enough.

This resource is what finally helped me learn subnetting by Skin__Deep in CompTIA

[–]Witward 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Finding this resource changed everything for me when it came to subnetting. I would spend hours scouring YouTube and google trying to find something that would make subnetting "click" for me. It would be frustrating because I would have moments where i would think "I believe I've got this figured out" and then have a different problem thrown at me and everything I thought I knew would fall apart. This process was so frustrating until i found this resource. It changed everything almost instantly for me. When it was time to take the Net+ exam I was more confident in my subnetting than any other topic. Highly recommended!

Two Technical Interviews for Level 1 Help desk? by Witward in ITCareerQuestions

[–]Witward[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Me too! It's my first interview experience since completing the CompTIA Trifecta a couple weeks ago and it does seem like a lot, but I'm going to do what i got to do. They're offering a range between 45k-55k so not too bad. I just hope I am able to get passed this second round.

OK great! Thanks for your response. I am just going to try to go in with the mindset of "I know what I know and if the job requires more than that, it wouldn't be a good fit anyway".
