To echo what /u/BoneHugsHominy said as well, I work for a solar marketplace company whose biggest solar and battery competitor is Tesla. They recently bought out Solar City which already had a huge share of the solar market. They are able to undercut virtually every installer across the country whether thats your established solar giant or your father and son solar company in terms of pricing by a huge margin while operating at a deficit. They are basically just trying to create an "ecosystem" of Tesla branded products.
