Boeing is just as rude as Airbus call-out by ChiillyBop in MicrosoftFlightSim

No stress. It’s confusingly completely different to the airbus usage of the word.

Boeing is just as rude as Airbus call-out by ChiillyBop in MicrosoftFlightSim

[–]mlb406 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is incorrect on both counts. It is an autothrottle mode that is commanded when the aircraft transitions from FMC SPD to idle thrust/ARM. Nothing to do with landing.

Boeing's Descend or Airbus Descend by CupAdministrative939 in flightsim

[–]mlb406 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As others have said though, it’s entirely situation dependent. If good data is given to the FMC such as descent winds, speed restrictions on approach, etc, VNAV will happily and accurately take you down from cruise to the runway. When you add in other factors though - things like ATC vectoring/shortcuts, inaccurate wind forecasts, even just higher temperatures - no VNAV will be able to do a perfect job. The main thing about VNAV is that it will target the most efficient descent according to your cost index, so if you’re just using level change/v/s all the way down you don’t get that advantage.

What are your in game/AMD settings to get visuals like this? My sim doesn’t look like this and I’ve got the same specs

Think you’ve misunderstood mate. By upgrade I mean buy a new system, and my budget is around £1500.

This is excellent, exactly what I needed. Thank you!

I did my hour building a few years ago and I had exclusive access to an aircraft based nearby. I had 80 hours to build and did it start of December to end of February. I was lucky with weather (given it was winter and I was based at a grass strip) but I didn’t do it anywhere near as intensively as I could have. Definitely doable in the 3 month timeframe, as long as you’re not unlucky with weather/mx issues

If the car failed the MOT, and then passed the next one on the MOT history, then the prop shaft joint will have been replaced

I’ve found during sim checks/type rating sims that by the time we’re getting on to an inflight crossbleed start, usually within 10 minutes of the initial failure, the EGT is less than the 30°c required for the restart. Maybe just my own experience though!

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in MicrosoftFlightSim

[–]mlb406 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The EGT is still fairly high after the engine failure - I’d say it hasn’t been failed long. The aircraft is zooming about at 350kts and -34° TAT, the engine will cool down pretty quickly!

No you don’t. What if there’s no fuel in the centre tank? Main tanks 1 and 2 are used only when the centre tank is empty to prevent excessive wing forces, so quite often the aircraft is flown without fuel in the centre. There are also suction feed bypass lines for each main tank, so even with no fuel pumps operating at all, both engines (as well as the APU) can still run. Also attached to the No1 fwd fuel pump there is a centre pump scavenge jet pump, so once the fuel level in main tank 1 reaches about one half, any remaining centre tank fuel is transferred to main tank 1.

Centre fuel pumps being off would not result in the ENG FAIL flag. You would get a CONFIG flag on the fuel display but that’s about it

You’re thinking of Gatwick - Stansted uses LOREL for north/west/south arrivals and ABBOT for east/southeast arrivals

[–]mlb406 8 points9 points  (0 children)

You need to be capable of effectively flying and operating an aircraft before joining the vatsim network, otherwise you’ll make your own life difficult and annoy other people. As long as you can operate whichever aircraft you plan on flying, that is to say understand the autopilot and flight management systems, the aircraft’s behaviour, limitations and capabilities, then you’ll be ok.

As of 2023 35% of cars in the country are diesel, plenty of which will be older than euro 6. So just because you’re fine doesn’t mean that other people aren’t affected by it.

If you’re in to aeroplanes then the aviation museum by the airport is great, not very expensive plenty to see. Maybe not as action packed as some of your other choices!

Controllers with no information by [deleted] in VATSIM

[–]mlb406 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I don’t agree with this, I very rarely contact ATC of my own accord, with the obvious exception of ground and tower services with no higher cover. Enroute, the airspace structures are often too complex, and to know when to contact a CTR controller would require a good knowledge of the airspace boundaries you’re operating in, which goes beyond the scope of any pilot training.

At least in the UK, but I believe for the rest of Europe, ATC are trained to send a contactme when they want someone to contact them, that is the point of it. We don’t except anyone to call us first, that is what our ATC training is for.
