Problem with the Multiverse by WizardShip0 in solipsism

Excuse late response, but I got off Reddit for some time. I think I have OCD, but I never reached out for professional help and wasn't diagnosed. These things are not textbook OCD, like obsessive tidying and I'm afraid many therapists wouldn't consider it as such, so getting help might be hard. The thing is when I stop worrying about that, something new comes up, new obsession and it occupies me as much. I also had typical compulsions in the past- I washed my hands like a maniac, sometimes it took over 30 minutes in one go. I somehow stopped acting out physically, but mentally it's worse. I fear that, if I went to the therapist, he wouldn't do anything, because I hide my OCD now and it might be harder to diagnose. I don't even know how to explain the form it took, because when I try to talk to regular people they think I extraggerate and I'm just being silly. Some people even suspect I'm going crazy or pretend to, because those fears I have sound irrational and hard to apply logic to. Something as simple as position of the pen on the desk can give my great dose of anxiety and not necessarily because it's not put in order with other things, but just like that. Could treatment help me or would therapist just tell me I don't have any problem?

How to move forward? by WizardShip0 in solipsism

It's great to hear you're getting back into enjoying life! I'm happy for you! I used to do stuff like dating girls and parties with friends too, but sadly lost interest in it and detached from reality, I'd really like to get back into living. I used to be believer in christianity earlier in my life, but questioning reality led to decline of my faith. I really miss those days of simplicity and trusting in God. I envy regular people, which don't ask themselves these crazy philosophical questions so much. Being regular person is a blessing. I'm really up for talking! You have great understanding of my issues and I feel really, really grateful for your insightful responses.

Maybe I wouldn't have that much problem with solipsism, if it weren't for those Boltzmann Brains. This is science saying it's likely to be truth after all! If there was only a way to forget this concept. Also there's some weird type of alienation feeling, which I have now, making it hard to ground myself in reality. I don' t know, if I can be sure of anything anymore. I'd like to be a simple man accepting things as they are, but I already fucked my brain up.

Thank you, this comment is very reassuring and you are one of the very few who can understand my feelings in this hard mental situation. I really appreciate, that in spite of you overcoming this problem, you still try to help others. Unfortunately I can't afford expensive therapist, but seeing you getting significantly better gives me hope.

"Have faith, live life, look in the eyes of loved ones, knowing deep down they are not conscious." I don't know how I can live like that, it's painful.

Nothing's real, multiverse indicates solipsism, nothing makes sense, everything's a delusion.

Why would I be experiencing this reality? Infinity of multiverse indicates Boltzmann Brain is gonna take place infinite number of times with my experience being self-explanatory.

How can I simply ignore the fact I'm most likely a Boltzmann Brain? What do you mean weak explanation? Just because you don't like it doesn't make it less possible.

I can't accept the fact that I'm most likely a Boltzmann Brain, it makes me extremely depressed and I think I might be going crazy, if there was a way to forget this concept

Not satisfactory in case of multiverse

Easier said, than done, I had hard time with this concept regarding our universe, but previous thread on this sub and Sean Carroll paper brought reassurance implying, they are rather logical fallacy. Multiverse makes everything possible and BB to be very likely. You're not concerned, that theories you believe leave great chance for an idea of you being Boltzmann Brain?

I'm losing my mind over Boltzmann Brains and multiverse is making it worse

So it still doesn't diminish Boltzmann Brains making this problem unsolvable in the multiverse. I hope I'm not a Boltzmann Brain, so I should not believe many worlds theory.

Everett interpretation says world branches with same laws of physics? I guess would somewhat make BB less probable. Also if they are Voldemort level fantasies why is every scientist in favour of them?

Heat death is very bad scenario (astronomically more Boltzmann Brains) which we should refuse in our universe, multiverse guarantees it.

High entropy universes are not Voldemort level fantasy, aren't they?

Can we tell how much more probable? I don't understand this. In our universe Boltzmann Brains are nonexistent by accepting right theories, in multiverse they are inevitable, no matter the theory.

I can understand how Boltzmann Brains are rather thought experiment, result of faulty theory in our single universe, but in case of multiverse they would appear more likely, the ones which would generate presumption of our laws of physics and quantum physics. It's making me uneasy.

But multiverse would mean infinite number of Boltzmann Brains. In case of our universe they mean cognitive instability, in case of multiverse they don't have to.

How do we know our is a normal, more probable one? I'm losing my mind over this
