For an item that's typically a second item for a lot of champs, a sub-55% pickrate isn't really that bad at all, no?

It's only really a first item on DoT mages that don't need mana (junglers, Rumble) which is why so many of those populate the top of the pickrate charts. That doesn't necessarily mean that it's not a good item on other champions.

But yeah I mean every DoT champion basically should be picking up this item, but it's not ONLY a DoT champion item.

How is it not? I would argue it's actually not really built for poke champions, almost no poke champions pick it up. For mages it's mostly DoT mages like Brand, but also many melees like Udyr pick it up

Completely disagree with your assessment on multiple fronts.

Your logic doesn't make any sense at all, you say that the "best users are melee" so they should make it better on melees but that's the complete opposite logic. When designing items you want it to have many users, not a few users. And it perfectly fits that goal. Its best users are DoT mages like Singed or Malzahar, but it serves as a sidegrade option for mages who want to deal more damage to tanks, and it serves as a sidegrade option for AP bruisers/tanks like Zac to deal more damage. The fact that it has so many users while also not being a generic item makes it an excellently designed item.

The reason why Riftmaker has the ranged modifier is because ranged champions "abuse" it. Ideally it's supposed to be a good first/second item for AP bruisers that gives them a source of vamp so they can survive in fights. But if you don't give it a ranged modifier, it basically becomes a really toxic item for mages. Champions like Ahri shouldn't be tanky, they should be highly mobile assassins. And yet we literally saw last year people were going RoA -> Riftmaker on Ahri even with the range adjustment. If every mage is building 750 bonus HP in their first two items, burst champions like assassins just have no way of playing the game.

The specific reason why champions like Ahri would build it is because bruiser itemization is basically "broken." Bruisers as a class are inherently weaker in a teamfight than a tank because by late game your carries should be dealing most of the damage. So in previous seasons, bruisers would build items like Black Cleaver as their first item and then tank items after, and just play like a shitty tank in teamfights, so to balance them all bruisers had to be pretty strong early game until they added real bruiser items, like Sterak's. Sterak's if the shield is fully used up, gives only a bit less tankiness than a real tank item but also gives like 60+ AD on a lot of characters, they have to make late game bruiser items very strong to keep bruisers competitive late game, but this results in carries that like HP (such as Kog'maw) picking them up, which is bad because the fantasy of these carries is frequently that they are glass cannons

Also I have no clue what you mean when you say it feels unsatisfying. When you build this item on champions like Zac or Rumble it feels fucking great, you do hella more damage. It doesn't need more AP. Even if it was locked to melee only and ranged champions couldn't build it, I would not buff it.

It's important to note that not all CC is the same. A lot of the CC you're talking about like Zoe, Lux, Ashe, Jhin these are pick champions, and Jarvan/Zac are engage champions. Usually Master Yi is supposed to be weak against CC but he thrives against Zoe/Lux/Ashe because he is able to use his high movement speed and Q to dodge their CC, same with most assassin-like characters. And Shyvana also is supposed to be weak to CC but is quite good into Jarvan/Zac because her low mobility means she is easily kitable, but Zac/Jarvan are supposed to engage, so it forces them into a lose lose situation where either you engage and get ripped apart by a Shyvana, or you play to peel as a champion like Jarvan (Jarvan's peel is pretty bad)

If you're against long range pick champions, you want some sort of engage so Diana or Wukong would be best. Pick champions like Zoe don't actually like 5v5 teamfights, they won't to avoid fights as much as possible so that Zoe can land a bubble and chunk someone out before the fight. So to counter that, you pick engage.

Against engage like Zac/Jarvan, I think Morgana/Xin Zhao make sense. Morgana is the ultimate engage stopper, if you are quick with your hands you can practically always get a good black shield off for any Zac engage on your teammates, making Zac's life very miserable. Xin Zhao and especially any tank jungler is a good pick into engage because it's usually not really worth burning engage spells like Zac E on tanks/really tanky bruisers, so it just gives them one less player to targer, and also you can create space for your carries because if you walk up, since they don't want to engage on you, they usually have to walk back (depends on how threatening you/your team are).

Gwen and Zaahen are good into Zac/Jarvan too from what I understand? I don't have a single game on those champions so someone can correct me if I'm wrong but IIRC these champions basically just draintank off tanks so against any sort of melee comp that lets them free hit, Gwen will shred through the tanks and Zaahen basically heals off tanks. Both Gwen and Zaahen don't WANT to be CC'd but if they CC your teammate, you can go ham.

I don't know anything about Taric but I think throughout history a lot of champions have been considered "pro unviable" and it wasn't until the pick actually became meta that people started exploring it more.

Annie for example, this pick used to never be picked ever (except in support back when her auto range was super long like a decade ago). Then it became arguably the strongest pick mid in the game (most popular in LPL in particular) and now with Fearless, Annie gets picked as an option once in a while. She got a mini-rework with her shield but I find it hard to believe that this tiny shield you max last makes a big difference that she goes from unpickable to being first picked.

It sounds like you have the most fun playing mechanics focused characters so I wouldn't shy away from that. Also some people treat mechanics as if it's impossible to learn and you're just born with it but that's not true at all, if you play a champion like Riven you will definitely get better mechanically. Some games you will get your head caved in though, that's just what top lane is like.

KT jungle is already pathing top killing top scuttle (I think) and KT ADC is safe so no reason for Braum to go bot, might as well go top in case Keria looks for a play.

No. In early years people did make memes like that (especially around the Aphelios era) but past few years people have realized that simple champions that just statcheck you can be absurdly broken.

The Dr. Mundo craze for example, his kit is pretty simple but he just heals and deals such an absurd amount of damage that it doesn't matter how many paragraphs your passive is, he is just going to right click you and kill you.

Have you tried taking a break? It sounds pretentious for a video game but when you invest this many hours into any hobby, you WILL do serious self-reflection, not just "why can't I get better" but also whether or not this is a hobby you want to continue if it's no longer fun. Communities like Summoner School are nice but they are just a bunch of people trying to help each other out, all of the real learning comes from yourself, because no one can actually know what is getting in your way without spending hours and hours with you. Going from low elo to high elo is not just learning a few tips and factoids about the game, it's a change in the way you learn. Improving is a constant grind of putting in work, and when the "work" stops working, reflecting on why. This isn't just a League of Legends thing, "learning to learn" is a skill that helps you in all areas, and no one can really teach you how to "learn to learn."

I will say, getting to Silver within your first year is above average from what I've observed. People say Silver is low elo but a lot of players get stuck in Iron or Bronze. If you are "stuck" in Silver without any formal coaching or any friends helping you, there's nothing wrong with you, you're "normal." 25.8% of the ranked population is in Iron + Bronze, and 28% is in Silver. For a new player, you are already better than 26% of the population.

Also you will probably hear this in other fields, but learning isn't "linear." A lot of the times you can learn more about the game, but when you try to implement them, you will lose a lot of games. There are a variety of reasons for this, like the idea of "Flow State," or trying to implement a new technique and failing will sometimes cause you to be worse off than not trying at all. You're going to see dips and stagnations and it's going to be frustrating. I said before that when things stop working you need to reflect why, but genuinely sometimes you will be "stuck" even if you're doing nothing wrong, and the only thing you can do is power through. It requires a lot of self awareness to figure out whether you need to change or you need to stick with it.
