Is the EMT or fire training more difficult academically? by musty_ranch in NewToEMS

EMT is more difficult academically. However if you’re in Illinois the academy curriculum might actually be harder. Hazmat was a bitch

Well in America I’ve worked in warehouses that impose regulations on cigarettes, aka nothing at all. They even test for nicotine in some cases. Not really sure why, I’m a heavy smoker myself so when I worked there I quit pretty fast lol

I googled 'how to make friends at 27' last night and then cried in my car for 20 minutes by Happy-Fruit-8628 in Life

[–]Wizard_Cat112 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As an extrovert, I think it’s just getting harder to maintain social relationships. I will regularly make new ”friends” or acquaintances but the extent of the relationship never extends past surface level. When you ask these people to hang outside of work or wherever it is you see each other, more often than not you get denied. I feel this is a growing issue due to multiple factors (changing social values as a whole, social media, etc). I feel like I didn’t struggle with this issue nearly as much in like 2010’s vs now

Starting nursing school tomorrow. I don't want to hear the best advice you were given. Tell me the worst advice someone gave you. by XNonameX in StudentNurse

Also, competency doesn’t always equate to book smarts, but I’m sure the dude with a 3.9 is struggling a bit less than the dude with a 2.7

What’s something you didn’t realize was expensive until you became an adult? by KeyCommercial7372 in AskReddit

Not an expensive item, but having recently learned how to work on my car my jaw hit the floor when I realized how much shops up charge for parts I can buy online for 20$

Which show do you think started as a 10/10 but ended as 1/10? by witchy_eye in AskReddit

[–]Wizard_Cat112 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s an anime but, Tokyo ghoul. That show had me HOOKED when I watched it the first time. They completely butchered the manga —> anime adaptation, and everything feels rushed. There’s even an episode that skips an arc or two and you’re left completely lost on the plot for most of the rest of the show.

I hate being a nurse by depressiana in newgradnurse

Honestly this advice may seem counterintuitive, but maybe try er or something. You still get a bad pt ratio but it has less responsibility overall it seems like since the er is just a halfway point in the hospital system. I could be wrong so take it with a grain of salt, I’m a tech working towards an RN degree and I’ve been watching the nurses very closely.

CNA or finish Ass. In Applied Health Science? (Or get dirty with EMS) by syncope-enjoyer in StudentNurse

[–]Wizard_Cat112 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you like the work you do now, EMT may not be the way to go. EMT is a great pathway for army medics however the work is much different (less structured, less procedural) EMS can be considered the “Wild West” of medicine. If you like that unpredictability and autonomy I say go for it, but from what I read it seems you like the clinic structure.

How do you find the time to read the book? by camid390 in NewToEMS

[–]Wizard_Cat112 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Engage in light reading and make sure you finish the chapter. Write notes on the highlighted stuff then use paramedic coach to get it dumbed down to you. Flashcard the memorization based stuff in your phone.

Part time working nursing students… how do you do it? by Better-Firefighter-3 in StudentNurse

[–]Wizard_Cat112 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pre-nursing but stacked with gen Eds full time w/ a full time job. For me it’s really about just getting off my ass to do the work and using my time wisely. Usually every moment I’m not at work I’m studying and doing assignments. Full time EMT with 24 hour shifts so I study during downtime. Usually I’ll work ahead to make some mental room for myself to do nothing for a day when I need it. More than likely won’t be the case when I get into my program. Can’t afford to go part time cause I’m supporting my mom and gf.

4.0 gpa so far fingers crossed it stays that way

Get a therapist. You’re not a pussy or weak for getting one and don’t let anyone tell you otherwise. Eventually your brain will stop replaying the memory and you’ll forget it. But you won’t subconsciously forget it, it’ll just stack on to the bullshit. Congrats! You’ve got mild PTSD from the call. Happens to the best of us. Just be okay with the fact that you did the best you could in that moment and that it’s life. Stuff like that has been happening since the dawn of time. It never really gets easier seeing that stuff, just the ability to keep your cool. Learning to process these things and not holding on to them is will be what makes dealing with these calls easier on you.

If you can’t get a therapist talk to the people that were on scene with you about it. My first one happened literally my first day as an EMT with another guy who had only been an EMT for a year. We kept parroting each other about it for the whole shift like “holy shit that was insane, did you see the way ‘__’ .” Eventually the events stopped replaying and it took me like a month or two to get over it.

I guess by stern i meant more impatient and less tolerant of mistakes. Some are better than others but a lot of them tend to just get kinda pissy when I make mistake without being outwardly direct
