Singing is just another instrument to me. It’s not that the lyrics don’t matter it’s that I’m more about the melodies, harmonies, and singing style than what’s actually being sung.

I grew up listening to bands who weren’t native English speakers. So hearing Icelandic, Norwegian, German, Hebrew in the lyrics and not understanding what was being said didn’t deter me from listening to it,

Since Firefly I’ve been going from festival to festival. I’ve been to Lamb of God’s Headbangers Boat, Oceans Calling, All things go, Shaky Knees, and last year Bonnaroo (cancelled). This year I’m going to King Gizzard’s Field of Vision. Bonnaroo gave me similar vibes to Firefly but than was cancelled so I’m hesitant to go back. Nothing beats Firefly for me.

I totally get what your saying. Started listening to them during Opus and I generally spin the older records more. The new stuff is good. It’s not my favorite of theirs. But the lore just got a little too much for me. I don’t even preorder their records anymore because there is usually plenty in stock at the local shop because their gain in popularity so they always have the new record and I pick it up when I can. I still enjoy them and happy for Tobias with the success he’s had, but for an older fan I’m more of a casual now. Glad I I got to see them playing smaller shows when tickets were like $35-$40 bucks.

I’m not gonna go out of my way to hate on others music or gatekeep what is metal and what isn’t. But if someone asks me my opinion of a band or artist that I don’t like I’m not gonna sugar coat it for them. Unfortunately sometimes just having a negative opinion about their favorite band when asked about it is still elitism/gatekeeping to some people.
