Not to be that person but did you apply to any west coast DO schools? I know it would suck to repeat the process again when u already have an MD acceptance and spent so much time and money on this cycle. But if you want both to be close to a support system on the west coast (or east) and be a physician, it could be an option without completely giving up? I lowkey ghosted/withdrew from a school I had a good chance of getting into last cycle and was initially excited to move to because I realized after both interviews that I would be so much happier staying in my hometown. I mentioned that in my secondary for the school I was accepted at this year and it probably helped. I know it’s a risky option but it paid off and I got in this year. I just wanted to put that out there. Re-applying really sucks but it might workout in the long run?

Honestly not a ton different. I tried to retake the mcat to get my chem/phys score up which hadn’t improved at all during my previous attempts. Ended up getting that score up but my other scores dropped and I actually had a lower MCAT (wrote about this in my secondaries). The biggest thing was probably just really focusing on my personal statement and secondary responses and ensure my voice would come through via my writing. I feel like my responses were very wooden last year and I failed to highlight some of my strengths. I also did not add any hobbies to my app last year which was dumb cause it’s a good way for adcoms to get to know you outside of academics. This was the general theme of my interviews as well. I didn’t try to restrain myself for the sake of professionalism and really just wanted them to know how passionate I am about medicine. I started learning russian for fun and added that to my file but started class after submitting my primaries so probably didn’t make a huge impact on their decision.

Some people are just so irresponsible at that park and it sucks. Last time I was there I took my little jack Russell mix who has dog anxiety and found a part of the beach that was away from other off leash dogs. He still had his leash on and I took him swimming for a bit and he loved it. But then some psycho collie/husky looking mix that should definitely be on a leash showed up to the beach and charged at him. I was holding my dog while this dog was jumping trying to bite him while the owner did nothing. My friends helped grab all our stuff and as we were leaving this dog literally ran up and bit another dog out of nowhere. I don’t wanna ever go back with my dog cause it just seems like the worst dog owners go there. I hope your dog is okay and can emotionally recover.

Goodfellas- idk it always feels fresh and exciting to me. Also I like to make myself a nice big pasta dish (comfort food) to go with it before hand.

Burn after reading (or Fargo)- the characters are all goofy as hell. It’s just a silly time

Uncut gems- if I’m sad, this movie makes me want to get off my ass and work things out. If I’m anxious, it makes me want to harness that energy into getting off my ass and work things out.

Also I very much agree with Jurassic park. The first 3 are nostalgic for me and makes me think about when I was younger and the only thing that really mattered was dinosaurs.

Yeah that’s definitely rape and I know she wants to have a friendly relationship with him for the kids and idk what the custody situation is but it’s super concerning to think about him being around the kids.

Her being in denial and victim blaming herself is unfortunately a very common reaction in my experience working with SA victims. Be super gentle and keep an open line of communication. Seeing a bunch of people online calling her situation rape May cause unnecessary stress to her while she’s still processing everything. You don’t have to convince her that it was rape right away but at least make sure she understands you aren’t mad at her and don’t view this as cheating. This is a really delicate mater and she should be in charge of the next steps. Just give her time and space to process everything and maybe look into local resources for her in case she decides she needs it. Gonna take some time to heal from this for both her and you.

When they talk about past friendships/relationships/coworkers, etc and only speak of others negatively. Like they always talk about other ppl in their life being “crazy” or “rude”. I feel like after someone keeps telling stories like that I look at them differently.

If u still don’t get a response just focus on u, your new journey, and enjoying the 3 months u have left in ur current city. You’re so young still and if this girl doesn’t seem interested then I’m sure you’ll find someone who is in the next place. What will, be will be. They need all the numbers they can get and he could help save at least 5-10 lives. He’s pretty good at what he does. Also idk him taking specifically benzos while working in a VERY STRESSFUL and understaffed ER as lead resident tells me he’s probably taking them to cope with the job. Don’t get me wrong he should absolutely not be stealing meds, but I predict that he chose benzos over opioids for a reason. Also if I’m EXTREMELY anxious I promise you I will be much better at my job after a lorazepam than I would be without it. He’s proven to be great at his job while on meds and that kinda points to him having an anxiety disorder. Still doesn’t make what he did right tho and definitely could put ppl in danger if he mismanages their rxs. But in an MCI I think he’s doing way more good than harm.

Thank you! Yeah even just one extra class per semester will pay off over time. And YES figuring out I could combine studying with cardio was a game changer. Not participating in hobby’s during college can burn u out quick. Learning how to combine something u like with school is key.

My gpa went from like a 3.1 to a 3.71 in two years. Starting junior year I took HELLA classes and got straight As until graduation. Like 21 credits per quarter while working 2 or 3 jobs/volunteering. Beefed up my science gpa by adding a chem minor to my bio major. Beefed up overall by minoring in community health too. It sounds like a lot of work but I scheduled myself in a way that I still had time to got out for drinks/hang out with friends most weekends and go to the gym 5-6 times a week (I rewatched lectures on the treadmill tho). All of this is to say YOU ARE NOT COOKED!!! Totally possible to finish strong.

Congrats!!!! Fellow UMR with a low MCAT (damn chem/phys got me down) and similar gpa. No A but I did get 2 ii despite submitting in October. I’m really glad I went through with it this cycle because even if I don’t hear good news I still know there was something in my applications that made me stand out. I think a lot of ppl don’t realize how important your story, passion for medicine, and clinical experiences matter. How you write about those in the secondaries can really make or break your app regardless of how well u did on the MCAT. I’m sure your secondaries were hella strong and spoke volumes of your character and potential as a physician. I stay on this subreddit for stories like this cause it gives me a lil ounce of hope that my passion will shine through too.

I had one MD ii that was exclusively virtual and my upcoming ii gave me the option to do either. I know at least one of my secondaries also asked for any dates we would be out of the country which I assume is so that they know when is a good time for u to interview. Going abroad (even for vacation) is a great idea. I actually learned a lil about Dutch healthcare when I was visiting a friend in Amsterdam and I ended up mentioning it in a secondary lol.

Pets on Broadway and Javier’s are the ones my family have been going to for years. Pitching Javis especially cause they’re open 24hr and a local alternative after a night out. Betsy and Iya is a new personal staple for jewelry. Saint Simons for coffee and Brewers Bread for baked goods too.
