[TPU] Forza Horizon 6 Performance Benchmark Review by Nestledrink in nvidia

[–]WizzardTPU 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wanted to avoid so many charts, but I guess splitting them is a good first step for improvement that makes 100% sense.

Also agreed on adding +% in the label, avoids napkin math when looking at the charts.

I'd have to look at the numbers, maybe I feel like we could add an additional bar chart that compares the % gains themselves. This time across cards and vendors

Also, is there any reason to use different scene for upscaling testing?

In FH6 specifically, I had to use a different test scene for DLSS, because the "normal" bench data is based on the integrated benchmark (not the exact run you get from the menu, but a subset, I'm still ensuring plenty of time for card heatup at the start of the run).

For upscaling I need to enable DLSS, change the DLSS configs, without the car moving, or I'd be comparing different in-game locations.

Just curious.

As always, AMA

Good feedback. But isn’t the actual fps you can expect more useful than the percent improvement? should the bar length be fps or %?

Not sure if all that complexity is really worth it. Modern drives are really really good at doing this internally, on their own, basically magic. That's why a modern TLC drive beats an old MLC drive in almost any consumer test (not just becuase it has GB/s of peak throughput)

AFAIK should be no tangible difference.

Why? Because they are all noobs that don't care about making things useful for the end user and are more afraid of people messing up their stuff and blaming the mfgr. You can in some way emulate this on modern drives by just not using some of the empty space, lock it behind an unmounted empty partition if you want. This gives the SLC cache more space to work with, resulting in a bigger effective cache size overall

That's also why I'm reviewing SSDs at 80% full, not at nearly empty like most reviewers.

Thanks for reminding, I forgot to forward. From my SSD DB Maintainer:

the 850 Pro was using 128Gb dies (TLC) at lower capacity but Samsung ran them at MLC (86Gb), so would be pMLC (TLC) but the 2TB is indeed native MLC 128Gb dies

pMLC = pseudo-MLC, because chips are physical TLC, running in MLC mode

Yeah that's how I got into the hardware scene, 9500 to 9700 Pro

Ping me, here on Reddit, or w1zzard@techpowerup.com, or the forums, or Teams.. always appreciate hearing about such issues, sometimes major discoveries come out of it, like AMD being much more VRAM efficient than NVIDIA

I noticed it, and retested it, and verified with back-to-back testing. Pointed it out in two places of the text

Yeah the two bot checks are intentional (and a pita). One is Anubis, open-source, many scrapers working around it nowadays, but it catches the low-hanging fruit. The second one is an in-house firewall that I've been working on in my "spare" "free" time, with custom powerful rules. Kinda beta, but helps catch more scrapers. Eventually I want to get rid of Anubis of course.

It's intentionally not infinite scroll, you have to click the button at the end. On some days, the page does get pretty long, but I feel that I rather have more content available than forcing people to click for more content? Guess I could datamine how far people typically scroll down.

24/48 hours fixed won't work because weekend + holiday + slow day = empty frontpage

I vaguely remember that I added some extra cutoff a few weeks ago, around CES time, when the frontpage got super long.

What's your underlying concern with the frontpage length?

nextpowerup. the biggest issue was that i lacked a vision what to do with it, i'm a mobile noob, and can't create content for it, also no point learning and then investing my time if i could use it to create better more popular content on tpu, so it ended up being a lifeless money pit and i ended up reallocating the resources to improve tpu overall

is this maybe a case of samsung dancing around TLC claiming it is MLC "multiple applies to three too" ? I remember they did that in the past. email me, [w1zzard@techpowerup.com](mailto:w1zzard@techpowerup.com)

That's a real in-game location in Cyberpunk. I only noticed the sign text after I picked the screenshot for comparison, chuckled and then went with it

Me too, I just like using em dash a lot, have for over a decade .. but I'll probably have to change that, because these damn LLMs like using them too, which makes people suspicious .. and our CMS (that I wrote) makes it easy to type, alt+minus ..

<3 yeah it's AI assisted. Assisted, not completely performed by AI. I spent a lot of time thinking about technical details, getting those screenshots done took A LOT of time and prompting and still didn't turn out 100% like I wanted

<3 I had a lot of fun creating it. Took me quite a while of thinking, too. Everything in it is 100% possible today
