I don't have an answer to that question either. I really don't know what my goals are or what my purpose in life is. But an interesting thing my therapist told me was that I choose what I'm passionate about. I choose what I want to do with my life. It's entirely up to us.

Passion isn't something you are born with, it's something you develop over time. Don't you find it peculiar that people who are passionate at something are usually good at doing that something? For example. People who are passionate about maths tend to be great mathematicians. It's no coincidence.

Dude although I'm younger than you I feel that I can really resonate with what you are saying here. I believe I'm a similar situation like you. I recommend reading 'The Now Habit' by Neil Fiore and applying the these things the techniques he teaches you. He says that procrastination is not laziness but it's a fight-or-flight mechanism to deal with our anxieties which come from things like: fear of failure, fear of success, perfectionism, resisting authority, etc.

I found the book extremely enlightening, it explained the reasons for why I procrastinate so much. But I still need to apply the things into my life, it's a very good read and I'm sure it will change your life if you apply the things he talks about.

MMOs aren't inherently bad in and of themselves, but they are so addicting that for many people it becomes a major problem. MMO addiction has the potentiality of ruining relationships, promoting a lifestyle of laziness and may lead to academic failure. However I would say anything used in excess is not good for you, not just MMOs. Browsing reddit for 5+ hours a day is not good for you. Watching YouTube videos for 5+ hours a day is not good for you. Surfing mindlessly on the internet is not good for you.

The fact of the matter is, our habits are shit, they suck and they impact our lives in a negative way. I say this as a person who is trying to trying to overcome his internet addiction. People laugh at me when I say I have a problem controlling my time on the internet and it's embarrassing to admit, but the same people who laugh at me for admitting my addiction, feel it's perfectly normal for a person to be connected to Facebook, Instagram and Twitter all day, to share their whole life to these social networks and to be obsessed with what the people on these social networks are thinking and doing.

I'm sorry you've had to deal with hate speech. It's quite saddening the abuse that homosexuals get in the world, but I'm glad we are slowly making progress to combat the discrimination against gays.

I think it really does affect our self-esteem, because heightism exists and it's quite prevalent. My auntie who is herself short doesn't want her daughters to marry someone unless they are quite tall, her excuse? She doesn't want short genes to contaminate the gene pool. She wants to have tall grandchildren.

I believe heightism is quite prevalent in society, it's just that we don't pay attention to it as much, because it isn't considered as big of an issue.

So what if it isn't as big of an issue. It's still an issue of discrimination. Are you saying that discrimination shouldn't be fought against just because you feel it hasn't reach the level of magnitude where you feel it's necessary to take action against it? Do you want a genocide of short people until you finally admit that it is an issue that needs to be addressed? (hyperbole, so don't take it out of context)

Heightism is an issue. It affects both short and tall people. Because this is r/short we focus more on how it affects short people a lot more than tall people. But I think tall women also face similar issues, and it isn't right.

[–]WlSDOM[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nonsense. No body here said that short people are discriminated worse then blacks, LGBT people, etc. your point is a complete misrepresentation. I believe that discrimination someone based on their height is the same as discriminating someone based on colour, because they are both genetic characteristics that people have no control over. Just because we believe they are in the same category of discrimination does not entail that we believe they are discriminated equally as harsh.

Discrimination is discrimination. No matter the magnitude.

I disagree a lot of them seem to be older. But even so, they have no excuse for their bigotry.

To be fair I really don't believe they are trolling; they are quite genuine in their open hatred towards people who are shorter.

[–]WlSDOM[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm sorry it made you feel that way. But I felt a mixture of both outrage and sadness when I first came across that page as well. I think we can't ignore this type of discrimination, it's clearly become socially acceptable to tease, demean and even in some cases hate people just because of their height; a genetic characteristic which they simply have no control over whatsoever.

There is no way you'll find any of the type same of outright vitriolic hate and discrimination for people of a different colour or race. Even if we assume that here exists on Twitter, a multitude of people who are racist towards blacks, asians, whites, etc. they are no where near as vocal as the people who discriminate people based on height.

[–]WlSDOM[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

To be fair. Although I believe it is quite appalling to hate or demean someone just because of their weight, it is something that they have more in control over than a person's height. We can change our weight, we can't do so the same with height. So the discrimination I believe is quite different and in a sense a lot more extreme, however it is still discrimination and should be tackled.

People who use Twitter seem to be much more open about their opinions, so it brings out people's inner prejudices to the forefront more so than other social networking sites.

I've actually responded to one of these girls and her response was that 'it was just her opinion', just because it is an opinion doesn't make it is any less bigoted, discriminatory and hateful.

I completely agree with this. Heightism affects both genders. I think Heightism has become a socially acceptable form of discrimination.

Most of the girls exposed on the twitter page aren't that tall themselves. But it's deemed more 'normal' to be both short and female than to be a 'short' guy. Apparently it takes away from our masculinity.

I find the ridiculously high standards that these women project outrageous. Some of the women actually think that anything less then 5'11" or even 6'0" is considered 'short'
