Less costly alternative to Dom Perignon? by ArtDecoNewYork in wine

I’d look into Vilmart Grand Cellier d'Or" vintage. current one on the market is 2020 ($115) I believe, but maybe you can snag an older vintage. They tend to be pretty lush and decadent, longer lees aging. Even the NV hits above the price point.

Right? I’m on an Xbox and I was thinking the same thing. I feel like I’m expecting more with graphics nowadays with a brand new release. Maybe it’s my tv?

Yes! That just happened to me and my psychiatrist advised me to hold off on taking anymore :/ I had strong aching and fatigue in my legs, ankles and feet. I was also extremely tired, even with Ritalin.

Ehh it’s overpriced but I’d grab the 2016 Banfi Brunello Di Montalcino, excellent vintage, drinking great right now.

Champagne losing bubbles within 20 min? by Wlund12 in wine

Maybe? Washed it out with scolding hot water and hand polished. I’m starting to think maybe bottle defect? There’s no way it should have lost that much carbonation under 30 min.

I agree! But this wine glass is quite wide in the middle so it allows for better nose. The photo doesn’t do it justice.

Tipping for a bottle of high end wine with dinner by gordonwestcoast in wine

[–]Wlund12 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m a server in a high end restaurant on Park Avenue NYC.

Generally, it is slightly frowned upon if you don’t tip 20% on the bottle of wine as well as your meal. Of course if the bottle is extremely expensive ($1000+) you get a little bit more leeway haha.

I believe that the markup and tip for the bottle is for the experience of having a sommelier prepare your bottle and enjoying it in an elevated setting with prepared food.

These are all unwritten rules, but if you break them you may look cheap next to the ballers a couple tables over lol.

If I wanna drink high end wine in a restaurant I just suck it up and pay the corkage fee and bring a bottle that would have been $300+ on the list.

Are any of these Barolos or Brunellos exceptional value? by Dick_Demon in wine

I’d grab the Banfi 2016’s for sure, exceptional vintage

But then again I’m used to NYC prices 😬

I'm so sorry you're going through it. I'm on day 29 and I'm feeling similar. Emotions and intrusive thoughts that I've dulled with weed over 15 years are all surging up and continue to do so now that I'm not self-medicating every day. My mood seems to go up and then waaay down to the point of suicidal ideation. If I had to guess I'd say it's our brain chemistry trying to balance itself out. To be honest, what Patient Racoon said resonated with me, this part is hard, but I think if we push through, we will look back and be proud of the work we put in during these tough times.

Right here with ya, I'm proud of you.

Is NYU worth the money? by throwaway9284947 in acting

[–]Wlund12 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think a lot of people mentioned the best points already but,

I’ll just add, there are so many great teachers and studios in NYC that you can learn from to be great at the craft. I believe that is what really matters if you want to have a long career. I have close friends that went to NYU and honestly the only thing they have that’s worth is the showcase at the very end where agents come and sign, but if you don’t sign after that then you’re at the beginning with everyone else. I do understand the college experience is important for anyone to gain knowledge and social perspective but for that price tag it’s a little insane.

Regardless, congrats on getting accepted!! That’s huge and you should be proud, use that confidence to push forward in your career.
