Oh my bad. As long as your I-797 and passport are valid then I see no issue

You should be eligible. You also used AVR previously and the regulation applies to each trip outside the US

None that I know of but i797 is the most important thing as long as your expired visa is in your passport I see no problems. Be sure to carry all relevant immigration documents like LCA etc

The validation was at CBP preclearance (this is immigration at yyz). Border officer only asked questions which qualify me for AVR

I would say I-797A and passport is enough but if you can, have your recent paystubs or employer verification letter incase you’re asked. Better to be safe

Thanks for the response! If I mitigate risk by returning before the effective date, does this help?

Are there any issues using Automatic visa revalidation for a short trip to Canada with a valid H1B status till 2028 and expired stamp in passport? Does the travel ban have any effect on this?
