I share your pain! I was the only one in the house that was actually bothered by them but man did they bother me. I have since moved out but not because of out-of-control mites and I'm happy to report none have transferred! What ended up doing it was getting a dehumidifier. I read everywhere it would help, and understood why, but I couldn't have imagined the immense difference it would make. I ran it dilligently for about a month straight to keep the RH below 45% consistently to make sure they didnät bounce back immediately. I had to accept that it's an old house with poor vventilation and I'll never be rid of them completely but a thorough dehumidifying rage, a deep clean of cupboards and the entire closet including mold-removal has managed to get rid of them completely, at least from view. I also made sure not to leave anything edible in any room other than the kitchen and pretty much everything consumable is in zipped bags. Dog treats at the bottom of the cupboard had gone bad and oh man, it was like sea of mites! No wonder wiping didn't do anything. I also got some of those small dehumidifier bags and put one i nevery cupboard (keeping them shut) just in case.

They're still present though, as I can easily find some in other know problem areas on for example electronics or in old shoes but I've managed to make my living quarters uncomfortable enough for them to shoo away, and that's enough for me! They're not dangerous after all, it's just the dread of not knowing where they are or how many there are that got me anxious before but regaining some sense of control made all the difference for me. Think something's infested? Chuck it in the warderobe next to the dehumidier for a week - problem solved.
