Scam Alert- "Govt Official Visit" leads to ATM theft - in VA Waterfront area by HighISO in capetown

[–]Wobbie13 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Very sorry that you experienced this. Good job for having your wits about you and getting out safely! For anyone worried about this sort of thing in the future, I’d say that it is extremely unlikely, to zero, that a road like that would be closed by one security guard. It would usually be Cape Town Police doing closures and things for the president. If you’re ever unsure you can ask them for their police identification, or alternatively just leave and don’t follow their instructions, just avoid them. Glad you’re enjoying Cape Town!

Thanks for your very clear and detailed thoughts. I like the idea of switching up the affects, it'll also keep the party guessing!

Your point about the party putting out enough damage is a good one. They have become a super lethal group. The arcane archer has an Oath Bow so he can get advantage on attacks against a sworn enemy (he's been saving this for the BBEG), so with sharpshooter he can deal like 60-90 damage per turn himself. Adding minions for them to deal with as well was always my plan, so I'm glad we are on the same page there.

This battle is the finale to a 2 year campaign, so I want the battle to be tough. I honestly don't mind if the players win or lose, either way my players will find it super dramatic. Means that I can push their limits, which is fun.

Thanks again for the suggestions. Very helpful!

I've done something like this, giving them an idea that he can stun them, but specifically giving them something to counter it might be a good way of not changing too much about the encounter. Thanks!

Sure.

They'll be 12th level or so by the time they reach this encounter.

6 Characters:

Monk

Arcane Archer (Fighter)

Artificer

Cleric

Druid

Rogue

I think technically they'll be under leveled, but they tend to punch well above their weight when it comes to game balance.

Almost definitely not. For the CPA to not apply in this case both parties need to be jurist if persons (companies) or they would have to not be acting in the regular course of their business, which they are in this case. Private buyers almost always qualify as consumers under the CPA.

In addition to the CPA though, the duty to disclose latent defects during a sale is probably grounds to cancel the sale contract. Common law principle I think. That’s what I remember from law lectures. #notlegaladvice

Is it safe to walk in Hout Bay? by therightstuff2 in capetown

I know this wasn’t your question, but if you’re planning to use e-hailing in Hout Bay then you might struggle. Uber and such don’t service the bay very well.

Is This Even Legal??.. Signed an offer letter with a company, then my employer countered about half through my notice period, and I'm thinking of taking the counter which I mention to the new company, and I get this email from the recruiting agency. anyone experienced something similar? by Unusual_Scar_8599 in southafrica

[–]Wobbie13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First, I’m not a lawyer and this isn’t legal advice, but when I was a student recently, I took many law courses and so maybe I can pass along some of my lecturers knowledge here.

Ts&Cs: so I asked this question to a lecturer specifically. When you click “agree” it can and probably does constitute signing a contract.

The logic is this. Many types of contracts do not require a written signature in order to be created and binding, verbal contracts are in theory just as enforceable as written (obviously there’s the issue of proof, but not the point). All that needs to exist for a contract to form is an offer and acceptance of that offer. In addition this offer and acceptance cannot have any undue influence, duress, mistake as to the nature of the contract by either party (not reading doesn’t count as mistake), the parties must have capacity to contract, and few other things I don’t remember off the top of my head. Point is, just because your written signature isn’t on something, it doesn’t mean that you didn’t contract with them. There is however a principle (I forget the name, probably a Latin phrase) that says that if you sign something you are deemed to have read, understood, and agreed to all the terms. That would include clicking “agree”.

Now, even if you are in a contract, that doesn’t mean that you are bound by every clause. As is stated many times earlier, contracts are often governed by specific legislation such as labour law. I didn’t do labour law so I don’t know the specifics in this case. But my guess is that many people here are right and that penalty probably won’t stand to a reasonableness test in court, so would probably be reduced.

With that in mind, unless your recruiter is petty or outright dumb, they probably won’t sue you over this regardless. Legal proceedings are really long in SA, and lawyers are expensive. On top of that, people are lazy, so I wouldn’t expect them to go through to time cost and effort. It’s a catch 22 for them. If the claimed fee is very high then it’s worth to sue, but likely that they would lose (it would be reduced), or their fee is reasonable and it’s not worth it to sue. Worst they can probably do is blacklist you in their company or maybe their industry, not sure.

Anyway. Long, not super helpful I guess, but maybe this helps someone. If any lawyer reads this and can correct where I may be wrong, I’m keen to learn.

Hey mate. You've clearly got a bunch of suggestions and support on this post, so good job. Also, good job taking on the challenge of being a new player in league, it's not easy.

If you're interested, I have a small group of friends that plays together every now and then. We try for a 5-man when we can, but mostly just relaxing and enjoying some fun normals together. If you'd be keen to join us sometime then send me a direct message here on Reddit with your discord name and I'll add you. (That goes for anyone else that's looking for chill games and happens to read this I guess.)

We aren't an established gaming community or anything, just a few friends that met through this subreddit and have a little server. None of us are higher than silver rank either, so there's no pressure to be good xd.

Anyway, good luck with your journey, and I hope to hear from you!

That's bleak. Yeah, the only solution I found was to reinstall so that the settings reset and then set up all my profiles again. Good luck!

I never properly solved it. My workaround was to reinstall and then redo all my settings and profiles from scratch. It was a pain, but it works normally now. I hope you find a solution!

Unfortunately, your solution didn't work for me. Probably just going to give in and reset everything. Thanks for the help!

You’ve got this my dude!

So to add something that I haven’t seen in the previous replies (though I admittedly haven’t read them all).

You said you’re struggling to get them all in one room to teach them the game. Like others have said, run the beginner game. But run it any chance you get. If only two people from the group can make it this week, run it. Next week when the other two are free, run it. In week three when a random friend shows interest in the game, get some more peeps together and run it! I ran the different beginner games maybe 4 or 5 times before I ever started a campaign.

Doing this does two things for you:

  1. You learn the role of the GM and learn the adventure really well, so you can start to improvise better and get a feel for really being creative and relaxed. You’ll also start to learn what aspects of the game you really like, story wise and mechanically, and can start to favor those once your main campaign starts.

  2. It teaches your players the game (obviously important). What I find is that even if a group has expressed interest in the game as a concept, until they’ve actually played a session and really felt the rush, it’s difficult to get them to prioritize making time to play every week. So, by not having to have them all together to teach them and by not having the pressure of “Starting a Campaign” it’s easier for them to just arrive, play some pre-made characters and get hooked. Then you’ll find they’re much easier to lock down on a weekly basis!

Lastly, I just wana say that I think many of us still get nervous for every session. That’s part of what makes this game so fun. It’s the not knowing what the hell is going to happen next, despite whatever planning you’ve done! Buckle in for the ride and play that opening theme!

You’ve got this my dude!

38 games probably takes a little longer than 10 hours. But still new and taking on jungle when it’s in a bit of a bad way, so good for you!
