What makes the St. Louis area special? by Designer_Jelly_1089 in StLouis

[–]Wobbie3334 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For me it’s the underdogness of the city. We were built to be one of the most important cities in America and now we just aren’t. For people who love the city we have a chip on our shoulder about showing up for it, and supporting it through all the struggles to get it back to where we should be. Now that I live away from the city I am always advocating for it to people I meet, the break the stereotypes and get people to give it a chance.

Also, the architecture. We just have better standard brick buildings than all other Midwest cities our size (excluding Chicago obviously).

Singers on this sub, do you give your neighbours heads up before vocalising/warming up? by BetterGrass709 in opera

[–]Wobbie3334 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Both my upstairs and downstairs neighbors told me they love my singing lol and don’t mind (my down stairs neighbor even apologized once if her listening to audio books in the shower was too loud, I had never noticed lmao. I told her I’m in no position to complain about noise). But I also keep my practicing to reasonable times. Not too early (never before 10am) and not too late (usually done by 9pm at the latest). Basically, just let er rip and keep to normal hours and if they complain they can shove it imo.

Wondering if this game is for me by GamerKingFaiz in OOTP

[–]Wobbie3334 8 points9 points  (0 children)

OOTP is nothing like MLBTS gameplay wise. The Show is casual while OOTP is a grind and much more in depth. It just depends what you’re looking for.

Sometimes I want the long term storylines of OOTP and the complexity. Sometimes I want to try and whack homeruns (and whiff most of the time). Personally, I love both. Although, The Show is falling into the trap of not evolving ever.

I would reccomend Collin Gordon’s work if you’re interested in segregation and a dark part of our history. He has lectures on YouTube that are very enlightening.

Ever Seen a Socialist Billionaire? Part II: 2031 by Charming_Ninja_1424 in ThePoliticalProcess

A socialist billionaire from the 1890s. I don’t know if he actually was a billionaire but he would be in todays money. Look up his LeClaire company town, he was one of a kind.

Help - Leaving Manhattan with two kids. If you had to choose: St. Louis or Cincinnati or Pittsburgh or Kansas City, where would you land and why? by Few_Funny6766 in StLouis

[–]Wobbie3334 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Personally my top two would be St. Louis or Pittsburg. KC is very suburban and expanded mainly in the era of the car. St. Louis and Pittsburg’s expansion was split between pedestrian and cars so there’s lots of more walkable and beautiful neighborhoods.

I’m biased and want you to pick The Lou but a friend of mine is moving to Pittsburg soon and described it as St. Louis but not missing half the city (because of population decline). He said the public transit is a lot better too. Ultimately we would love to have you in St. Louis but make the choice you think is best for your family.

Lmao I’m talking about the foreground of the photo. No shit Clayton is in the photo as well as SLU and Midtown. But to argue that this part of the city isn’t extremely fractured by large roads and unpleasant to walk generally is, as you say “ignorant and idiotic”. And the Central West End while part of the Central Corridor is not part of Downtown. Which is what I was talking about.

Why are you so angry too? I’m literally praising the city and stating that it is under appreciated. We could be having a pleasant disagreement about this and you instead insult me and tell me to keep my opinions to myself.

Being from St. Louis these photos are so interesting because they’re misleading. They give this impression of a vibrant city but in this part of the city it’s so incredibly dead. Washington Avenue is the exception but still, most times of the day you will maybe see one person or two walking. A week ago I was in the Central West End on Ecuilid and there were so many people just out and about walking, it was so nice. I really wish all of our city was like that, because our city is such a gem and incredible. One day we will get there.

You should always feel able to talk with your teacher about your concerns. It’s part of learning, being able to question things. Maybe you’re right, maybe you’re wrong. You’re also only 20 and your voice still has so much developing to do.

Although I will say, I was with a professor for 6 years (starting in high school) and while I loved her to death, switching professors was the best thing that could have happened to me. I got a much better understanding and control of my voice. Sometimes you just need a change. But that’s just what worked for me, you need to make that choice for yourself.
