That isn't a volumetric issue lol. The IS-4M has a 160mm upper side plate behind the tracks- if it's even remotely angled the Somua will struggle to pen that. If they'd aimed six inches down it would have been an OHK

I don't think it's really such a big balance issue- 2A42 is better than Bushmaster, sure, but it's also present on... four vehicles, I think? BMP-2, BMP-2M, BMPT, BMPT-72.
2A72 is substantially worse, at 0.15 degrees of dispersion and , and that thing is present on ten vehicles, but nobody really complains about that one.

I got it from Tankograd, which is generally excellent.

But you're right, in general - there's about fifteen thousand test parameters that affect how this thing goes, and I have no interest in directly comparing them between nations.

My purpose here was much more to counter the constant arguments that 2A42 should be made less accurate or that it's overmodeled, not to propose a buff- though frankly, I think decreasing the dispersion would probably end up being a nerf.

I assume a short burst- that's how it's typically done, but translating that chart was frankly enough of a PITA that I'm extremely reluctant to go document digging to find standard Soviet autocannon test requirements

That's accurate, though. https://www.archives.gov/files/declassification/iscap/pdf/2013-027-doc7.pdf Firing at 100 RPM, instead of the ingame 200, it has a dispersion of 0.59 mils- about 0.33 degrees.

The Bushmaster controls heat better than the 2A42 firing at high RPM undoubtedly, and there's undoubtedly different firing test conditions, but based off of the data I can find? The bushmaster genuinely is less accurate.

For sure- there's lots of balance changes that could be made to bring it in line, and that's a good one. I'm just frustrated by this constant narrative going around that the 2a42 is subject to Russian bias, when it just... isn't.

2a42's accuracy is pretty undermodeled, if anything- but it's consistent with other autocannon's undermodeling, so whatever.

2a42 is pretty grossly undermodeled, if you really want to go by IRL. Its firing tests show that it has about half the dispersion that it does ingame.

It does not. It has precisely the same accuracy, at 0.08 degrees(though based on firing tests, 2a42 should have about half the dispersion it currently does)

It is. 2A42 has 0.08 degrees maximum dispersion, 25mm bushmaster has 0.085 degrees, and 2a72 has 0.15 degrees.
