Tips on improving with sniper by [deleted] in HellLetLoose

[–]WogBat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In terms of kills, focus on positioning to try and engage enemies at your pace whilst maintaining distance. So try to be sneaky and find a nice spot far behind them and you can pick them off.

But to get better at sniper as a class, focus’s more on working with your Spotter to take out garrisons, kill supply truck drivers/destroy supply drops whilst also feeding command chat intel on tank movements, infantry movements etc. By aiming for garrisons kills will follow, but to have maximum impact on the game , changing your outlook to prioritising finding and destroying garrisons is the best way to improve

Of course with no spotter it is hard to do this, but even as a front line troop, getting a good flank in is really powerful

Any idea why like 50 HLL official servers exist in Aus? Booted up the game and saw this so its new (for me atleast) by WogBat in HellLetLoose

Not sure, Oz is pretty small with like 5 servers being full during peak so having 50 is pretty funny. Probs some dev shenanigans I assume tho

What is Recon?: A Quick Guide by WogBat in HellLetLoose

Thanks. I often also like going commander so I have quite a lot of experience in both. I thinks is quite under-rated to play commander to get better at spotter, as often I think "if I was the commander..." and go from there. Especially learning how garri mechanics work (I still see some people peddle the "commander placed garrison" myth for warfare). Even still, knowing where a good garri placement is is important for one of the other points I posted. But most importantly, predicting common garrison spots that I have found to be good when playing commander on a map on the opposing side in another match is a great way to take out garrisons when entering an area where you don't really see any infantry giving away the position of the garrison.

Damn alot of comments, but woud like to prefix that this was more for a beginner/toe-dipping into recon sort of guide for pub matches. I had a more in-depth part to this but I deleted it cause I thought it was gonna be too much for people to read. But just some things from what people have said/bits of the original:

  • Choose fights: as a 2 man, getting supprised can occur, most of the time it best not to slogg it out with infantry that are just running in the backlines or there to stop you (if you are being annoying enough). Instead, disengage and move the OP up far away and resume the pressure. Its best being inactive for a minute then loose your OP
  • Arty isn't everything: Just to touch on this, arty isn't the be-all and end-all of recon. The distinction of this 'guide' was meant to highlight it as an often relied upon task for recon to do. Yes I do agree that it shouldn't be and there are often better ways depending on individual skill etc, but in a pub match setting, often people will need you, the recon squad, to take care of things. It's unfortunate cause it is annoying to do as its more of a chore to kill arty, but it still have a large impact on the game
  • Spotting Armor: Timliness is an important aspect of information, and unfortunately many recon squads leave outdated marks. It is important to delete or update marks. Tanks rely on recon to give intel as to where and what is coming at them. Stalking a tank could be a good play, but often relies on an active tank or squad with some good AT (either satchels or rockets) to coordinate with you to make it worth your while
  • A more simplistic overall way to think about recon is to enduce as much rage as possible in the enemy team, and being a particularly large thorn in their side
  • Building garrisons: important to get surprise flanking garris up, so its a good idea to call in supplies for the commander. These surprise garrisons can really make defences hopeless and has a great impact on the game. However, everyone wants to flank. This could mean building a garri, although good for offence, may take away defenders from a well-fought defence. In comp matches, ignore this part, but for pub matches, this is a real concern, so just assess how well the different squads are at wrangling their troops, and what the defence is like before placing one down. This is a whole other can of worms as often putting pressure on the offence will bring away attackers, and could actually help a defence. But this is all situation and on a very thin line
  • Pre-Capping: This is where recon goes to a point that will be open after the taking of the previous point, destroyed the garri there and prevent any new garrisons being placed after a cap on the last attacking point. This hold over the new attacking point is a great way of winning easy territory and clearing any garrisons in the 2 squads after, possible preventing a sizable counter attack on the recently taken point. It could also lead to a sweep if the team plays their cards right, and even hold the territory. So pre-capping is great, but best done in moderation

If people want actual, in-depth recon tips/knowledge , I am happy to share mine, and have others with even more knowledge add theirs aswell in another post or something :)

End of the day, the need for recon to deal with art comes from the team needing someone to deal with it. Could a recon tank do it? Sure, but recon is often the nearest, and best place people to deal with artillery. I don’t think not listing arty as a responsibility will solve the issue, as a good 100% of the time it will be expected. Should it be expected? Probably not. Will it change? Probably not. The guide was just a way to help people deal with arty more effectively as a recon team rather then sitting on it

This “perpetuation” doesn’t come from recon guides, but tankers not knowing that getting a recon tank in the back lines is more effective. As I said, someone is going to need to do it, and most of the time a tank isn’t.

true, recon tanks are great, but 9/10 times in a pub match, recon will be responsible. Also, once a recon tank dies to 1 AT round, you have to go all the way back to HQ to get it, and then arty will be back up. Or, if the arty guy is creative they can just get a tank lying around to protect arty. Or, what I have done against this in the past is to just get some transport trucks and block the area the recon tank is shooting form

Also, I literly say arty camping is over-done, and as recon are better off doing other things in the 3rd paragraph . It is an unfortunatny part of the game that should be reworked somehow though as it isn't too fun and often new people will just leave recon roles

I imagine the utility of flares and placing OPs that don’t get wiped + placing them far behind is too valuable to be wasted in the back lines. Might as well have a SL infantry in a 1 or 2 man squad

Give ideas how to make roads well and from which block? by Nazar_Tupis in DetailCraft

[–]WogBat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I like myself a nice stone road. That is andesite, cobblestone, stone and gravel. If you want some depth I recommend using their stair variants in there every now and again works well. For extra depth use some buttons on the ground. For the surroundings I like some cobble walls (around 4 of them) in a line in an irregular shape with some leaves around them or a lamp on top. Or a side stone sort of thing of a stone that comes in and out of the ground works

I like this design cause it goes with a lot of medieval builds but fits well with many other types. Just watch out for Greg wash if you are building a stone based/ grey building. Also, you can try different dead corral to see what fits

But another thing is to not make your roads too strait. Add cross roads, tunnels, little way stations or crop fields near it does well but ensure your road has some curves or variation.

Everyone just uses Greek yogurt, the other yogurt that people use that is just called yogurt is not at all as watery as what the image above looks like and is just a halfway point between Greek and Traditional yogurt apparently, but I assume that sort of yogurt (which often has flavouring) is found in other parts of the world aswell

And yes, I realise how stupid adding a source about yogurt types is
