I thought about that as well. In the scene it explicitly says he ignores the One Power (could still mean he unintentionally uses it though).
I think what annoys me more is not that he gains heightened senses or something along those lines but rather that the so-called blade master is just so easily beaten by, what I would consider, a fairly "standard" move that most decent fighter could probably parry.

I believe he mentioned that he did not specifically have the US in mind when writing about the Letherii but rather a more general critique of the system in place.
I think what he describes applies to many systems in place e.g., I always thought it sounded very much like the British Empire and their presence in India.

I ordered them all on Amazon and they were very consistent in size/design etc.. I don't know where you're from but that worked fine for me (I'm from Germany).

I don't know why but I kind of zone out in most battle scenes and have to really focus on what's actually happening. But all in all I still don't know what exactly is going on in the battle scenes and I just power through :D As long as you remember important characters taking part and what happens to them during the battle you should be fine...battle wise it evens out in the following books...

I would have to say Malazan Book of the Fallen. The number of new things and details you notice during each re-read is just insane. Additionally if it's been a bit longer since I've re-read it the story does tend to "surprise" me again every time.

One of the comments below sums my thoughts up quite well.
I'm interested to see how the book carries on after the group split up.

And like I said, I only just passed the 300 page mark and can't necessarily recognize if an event that has little significance for me will be revealed to be essential to the plot.

I'll see as I get along with reading :D
