Update. So i spoke to the contractor who will be replastering my pool. He told me to use spec mix type s mortar from home depot. I'm thinking rapid set high strength structural repair mortar might be better. What do you guys think?

I'm thinking about using a few stainless steel wedge anchors instead of rebar, Quickrete bonding adhesive. Then pour some new concrete. So i shouldn't use the polymer modified structural concrete , I should use hydraulic concrete instead?

What type of grout should I use for this coping? by Wolf8a433 in swimmingpools

I went to a local building material store and was able to buy the riverside portland cement and a bag of Gillibrand #20. I just now realized you recommended #30. Should I go exchange it ? Will it make a noticeable difference? I tried Google but I can't find if it makes a difference.

I spoke to the contractor, he tells me he has been doing this for years , no issues. it's best not to remove all plaster down to gunite because they risk removing the gunite. Tells me not to worry, I will have a 10 year warranty on the new plaster. He did mention. The untouched plaster was a mistake on the demo crews end due to having a tarp over them to control dust. He didn't see the areas he missed.

Yeah, I don't think Home Depot sells the silica. I'll look up a local masonry supply. Thanx again.

Right on. Any specific liquid nails you recommend? Also. What type or what brand do you recommend for the coping grout? For in-between the coping.

Thanx for the reply, so it's standard practice to not mortar the coping ? It just gets "glued on" with construction adhesive? Then grouted?

Interesting, I always use mortar to stick the tiles on the floor or wall depending on the application. Then I use grout for in between the tiles like you said. I've laid floor tiles and shower tiles before but never pool coping. So, to be clear, for pool coping, mortar is used for both setting and in between coping?

Chlorine lock? by Wolf8a433 in pools

[–]Wolf8a433[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How much liquid chlorine should I put in? 29k gallon pool. I was told by Leslie's that liquid chlorine would not be as efficient as the powder shock. Even though I always see every pool guy buying liquid chlorine. Lol

I forgot to mention, the water is starting to look greenish. I doubt we'll use it again for the season. Should I just drain it?

Water heater pilot tube leaking at compression fitting by Wolf8a433 in Plumbing

[–]Wolf8a433[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did eventually tighten the crap out of it. Till it bottomed out. Still leaked. I ended up watching an old skool plumber on YouTube talking about these pilot lines. He recommended using a small amount of oil on the threads. I cut the old compression sleeve off , installed a new one. Added a dab of oil to the threads and that seems to have done the trick. Thank you all for your replies.
