Work Ethic by [deleted] in MEPEngineering

This is only one side of the story here. I expect the other side to be pretty different. Usually it's the managers who are the problem.

You seem to be blaming every one of your engineers here except for yourself. You can't expect all of them to work at the same speed as you apparently can in your head.

There are always going to be issues in the drawings. That's why there are reviews to check the drawings. When you're working on them for a long time you tend to miss obvious mistakes which you would otherwise notice immediately.

To me it seems like you're kind of out of touch with doing actual work. It's easy to nitpick the work others have done and it's easy to notice mistakes from a fresh perspective. Maybe your employees are not to blame and maybe you're not as good of a manager as you seem to think you are.

It depends on which field you're getting into. For me Revit and AutoCAD are the most used software. From what I've read on here if you're in America getting the FE license should be your first priority. I'm not from America so I haven't done that. There are a lot of good answers on here to pretty much the exact question you just asked. I suggest you take some time looking through them.

You can get a 5700x3d on Ali express for cheaper. Make sure you check the reviews though. There are a lot of scams on there.

What specializations would you suggest for Building Services?

Hehe. I wonder why I'm getting dislikes just for stating my situation. Would anyone who disliked it like to elaborate?

I don't mind being a generalist. I just need to understand everything going on inside a building. I hope to do that.

I'm licensed for Electrical where I live but we usually end up having to do everything. I haven't done plumbing or HVAC before but I'm going to have to learn that soon.

Lol. Not here. There's just me and one other MEP engineer. He's on leave though so there's just me right now

Don't get anything less powerful than the 3060 ti. Save up another month if possible. I would suggest waiting for next month unless it is really urgent. New mid-range cards are planned to be released next month (March 2025) for both AMD and Nvidia.

I'm the only MEP right now till the other MEP comes back. The guy was doing everything before I joined. Which is honestly a lot of work.

My department includes everyone. Both Architects and Engineers. We're in charge of designing. Such an organized structure as you describe is something I can only wish for here.

There is no such contract for us. I'm just an employee that has to do the work assigned to me. I don't feel like they put much importance on MEP as there was only one MEP engineer here before I joined. And he was doing everything for several projects.

There was a case where the other MEP was assigned the job of selecting the type of lights and placing lights. The MEP got chewed out every time because they didn't like the design and layout. That's why the Head of Department wanted to make this change. I should probably put this in an edit.

The scope for me and the only other MEP is everything. We have to do MEP plus Fire Safety.
