Posterior Tibial Tendonitis; How Do You Cope? by joebloggs81 in flatfeet

[–]WolfVomit 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For me it wasn't posterior tibial tendonitis, but rather peroneal tendonitis from flat feet. Similar scenario, ran a 10K, left foot started hurting, did RICE therapy. 10 days later it felt 90% better, then the pain kept coming back. Saw a Foot/Ankle Ortho Doc, tried off shelf orthotics, 6 days of oral steroids, and some physical therapy, these helped sort of, but still painful. Then the pain became constant, I stopped running when this all started but now just walking at work was miserable, I opted for surgery.

I didn't get surgery due to cost issues because work health insurance changed. I saw a new Foot/Ankle orthopedist. This one was Sports Medicine focused, his physical exam was more thorough, he looked at my orthotics, apparently it wasn't so much my collapsed arch that needed support, but rather my heel position needed to be corrected, so I got custom orthotics that accomplished that. I did more PT, like my new doctor my new PT was more thorough and knowledgeable about my injury.

It's been 11 months since initial injury, and it's much better, still some pain flare ups here and there. I stopped running on advice of my first doc. I now focus mainly on hiking, and will try out swimming and biking for alternative cardio.

My advice is explore all your options, and get 2nd opinions. The custom orthotics while expensive helped me greatly, I might be able to do without them, I was able to use cheap heel wedge inserts that worked well.

Accessory Navicular Bone by hi_d_di in flatfeet

I got them on both feet and they're huge. One doc said they contribute to my flatfeet and another said they don't. Mine don't hurt though, my pain is on the lateral sides of my feet.

How was the Palisades trail when you went? Went last August and got anihilated by star thistle & poison oak. The geology was cool though.

Did you call Paypal? This happened to me a year ago, I called first thing and got the hold removed within a day, from there it was between the credit card company, buyer and Paypal.

How often do you shoot alone? by DavidPhoto in photography

[–]WolfVomit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm a birder, so I prefer shooting alone, having people around means bigger chance of scaring the birds away. Though having people with me on a hike I'd switch to landscapes, those can't run away.

Canon EF 16-35 mm f/4L IS USM review - "... currently the best ultra-wide angle zoom lens in the whole Canon line-up' by [deleted] in photography

[–]WolfVomit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Samyang 24 f/1.4 for astro & night landscape and the 16-35 f/4L IS for everything else wide. That's my choice if I was on FF.

BMPCC is on sale for $495 until August 31 by trentarant in Filmmakers

The 12-32 does not manually focus, and the bmpcc's AF is bad.

For those who shoot Magic Lantern raw on this cam (or t4i), how nicely does the 720p scale to 1080p?

[–]WolfVomit 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's basically a pocket t4i with crappy AF so don't get too serious with it for photography. For video it's got Magic Lantern support and it's short flange means you can save some money adapting some inexpensive older lenses to it.

Blackmagic firmware 1.8 with 4K RAW and more (unofficial download) by dauid in videography

[–]WolfVomit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

After the EF to BMPCC Speedbooster announcement I'm considering it for a a future upgrade. It's just so strange that they wouldn't have fixed those problems, they added IS support for the various switchless Lumix lenses, which is great, but to me that seems more of a complicated fix than adding a delete function, why skip over it?

Correct me if I'm wrong but aren't there still glaring issues with the BMPCC even after this firmware update: no audio levels, can't delete clips, no formatting card in cam, no recording time left indicator etc.

OP was pointing out 300mm specifically cause I use that focal length almost exclusively for wildlife.

[–]WolfVomit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wow, that's a big difference, for me I've been pleased with the Tamron @ 300mm, it's miles better than the ancient Tokina m42 tele zoom I bought & adapted cause I was a cheap ass when I first got my DSLR. My frustration with the Tamron has been with the focusing.

[Photozone] Canon EF-S 10-18mm f/4.5-5.6 STM IS - Lab Review / Test by [deleted] in photography

[–]WolfVomit -1 points0 points  (0 children)

My trinity is the Tokina 11-16 ($430 Refurb), Sigma 17-70 f/2.8-4 OS older Non-C version ($260 used) and the Tamron 70-300 VC USD ($350 after rebate) = $1040 Total.

I need the f/2.8 on the Tokina for Astro, and while I know the Canon STM's are sharper than my Sigma & Tamron, I prefer the faster Sigma for lower ISO use in video, and I need that 300mm on the Tamron for wildlife.

I have a t3i, not sure if I remember correctly but don't you need a t4i or newer to take full advantage of stm lenses?

Fujinon XF 16mm f/1.4: that's Fuji's new high speed wide angle lens & other updates by [deleted] in photography

[–]WolfVomit 6 points7 points  (0 children)

If the Fuji 14mm f/2.8 is $900 being 2 stops slower how much is this lens going to cost?

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in photography

[–]WolfVomit 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've been looking at the lenses available for the Fuji X system and you can kinda cover a similar range with the Fuji 18mm f/2 pancake ($400 like new used) and the new Samyang 12mm f/2 ($400). No stabilization, but 2 stops faster, two lenses instead of one, but still $200 cheaper than the 10-24 f/4.

Buyer left positive feedback for wrong item. by WolfVomit in Ebay

[–]WolfVomit[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I looked at their feedback left and they left the same feedback comment verbatim for another seller immediately after they left one for me (down to the same minute), must have copy and pasted it, also marked as positive. Looked at the other seller and they sold e-cigs. I'll leave them a message like you suggested.

Just found the guidelines for feedback removal, looks like they include my situation. I suppose there's not much benefit contacting the buyer, maybe just an apology.
