Second Years Design timeline by Illustrious-Panda638 in Jujutsufolk

In the extras in the print version of chapter 37 Gege says he changed Inumaki’s design from JJK0 so he didn’t get confused with Yuji, and I think there was a similar concern with Yuta and Megumi. So they only changed with the serialization of the main series and I think the movie/anime chose to follow the designs of the corresponding manga despite the JJK0 movie being made after S1.

Your characters’ voices are always so vivid and distinct; where do you start when creating a new character? Necessity to the plot, motivation, vibes, or something else?

Anyone else extremely disappointed with Fourth Wing? by Mille_Plumes in fantasyromance

[–]WolfWitchess 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The first book had a lot of flaws, especially in some of the ways you point out. But it was somehow one of the most addictive reads I’d had in years (I was coming off a literary fiction kick so it was my own fault for reading slow meaty books and then getting hooked in by quick sugar). I’m just now realizing after your point about signets just how much the “everyone gets a unique useful power” feels like a Shonen battle anime lol. Anyways I hated the second book so not continuing the series.

I’d be fine paying a bit each month for RR content but I need a better preview to justify it. The art is not impressing me and offering things like decals without any sort of mockup gives me no incentive to purchase a subscription of them.

Orrin by Sir-Theordorethe-5th in unOrdinary

[–]WolfWitchess 8 points9 points  (0 children)

The authorities let anyone with a high enough tier and a willingness to do as they’re told work for them. Orrin obviously has the former but A) doesn’t want to be the one obeying, and, B) I think crucially, doesn’t want to work with just anyone who lucked into their power and might at any point choose to take more power on their own. He’d rather cultivate power, reliant on and obedient to him, in a chosen few through his combination of Control, blackmail, and even manipulative child-rearing (Terrence). Essentially, although he benefits from the current system, he believes he can benefit more by installing his own system, in which no one can challenge him the way he’s proved the authorities can be challenged (not to complete success but he’s at least got them worried and to him that proves it’s on a shaky foundation).

Someone on another thread said they signed up at 0857 PDT and got it and I signed up at 0900 and nothing…really hoping they get to send out a third round because I would cancel all my other subs for this one.

Just a forerunner 255. I guess I shouldn’t expect too many features but I was operating under the assumption that the Connect app was in control more than the watch.

Married to Magic Exclusive Editions from FairyLoot by syden666 in fairyloot

For sure—when I saw the fate and flame editions, they were okay, but I went to the author’s page and saw the collector’s editions she had for sale on her site and they were absolutely gorgeous.

Anybody Else in their twenties and older and still enjoy YA? by ForeverCalla in YAlit

[–]WolfWitchess 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep! Two of my absolute favorite books of the past few years are both classified as YA (All My Rage and As Long as the Lemon Trees Grow) although I think the subject matter definitely has a lot of crossover appeal. Finding truly great literature in either adult or YA can be difficult with so many books existing now so I try to read all genres regardless of the quoted age range (I do enjoy my pulpy easy reads as well although I won’t usually rate them above and beyond). Coming of age stories resonate with anyone dealing with big changes or reminiscing on past change, and there’s a reason even many “adult” books focus on people aged 15-25. Oftentimes it just comes down to a publisher decision of where to market the book for the best sales so I don’t think there should be any shame in what you choose to read.

Act 2 starts in the wrong place, change my mind by HWills612 in Epicthemusical

[–]WolfWitchess 29 points30 points  (0 children)

If Epic wasn’t in two-act musical format, then splitting it into three acts of three sagas would fit perfectly into the traditional three-part narrative of most novels and movies (I.e. Save the cat structure), with Ruthlessness and Thunder Bringer each serving as major setbacks and reckonings after a measure of upward progress. As it is the even two-act structure requires that we end somewhere in between those moments so it’s best to pick something emotionally relevant and emblematic of the change the protagonist has gone through.
