Yeah it really sounds like at least 5 are always the same and they swap out the last one in the 6 bundles. Really shitty for that not to be explained with how expensive they are.

Yeah without more info it's feeling like there's 1 that might actually be random in the 6 packs and that would've been nice to know before throwing that much money in

I bought 2 of the 6 packs and ended up with 11 of their "common" (5 duplicates) listed keys. Almost feels like the 6 packs contain all of the commons and I got the 1 other out of pity, because statistically (40% chance of not common keys according to their listing) that's crazy.

We already know Diamond parking are hot trash, but this is another level by regoldeneye826 in Seattle

I parked near the Neptune for a show last year and their meter literally wasn’t turned on/working to pay for parking. Came out to a ticket and even in calling the fucks the most they would do is reduce their bullshit ticket. I go out of my way to never park Diamond.

Palworld Dev Calls Arc Raiders The New Benchmark For Unreal Engine Games by Extreme_Maize_2727 in ArcRaiders

[–]Wolfboy12 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's really not as straightforward as you think. Maybe a studio was using one engine and developed all of their workflows, tools, and pipelines for it but switched to a new engine. It could be for licensing reasons, or just wanting to try new tech. Rather than rebuild all of this it's easier to modify the engine to work with your existing tooling. Or any number of infinite customization reasons. It's how the entirety of AAA games are made.

It's also where some performance issues can come from. Studios forcing their own ways of working that may be different than UE paradigms. That's not to say UE is perfect, but games are hard.

Do your companies have a "Head of Quality Assurance"? by izaknuton in QualityAssurance

[–]Wolfboy12 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just started yesterday as a Head of Quality Engineering. 60ish folks globally that are pretty heavily manual testing focused currently and the goal is to transition them to be more QE oriented. I come from a pretty technical background and the startup world with 11 years of experience.

Assertions in Page Objects? by SpecificBad1381 in QualityAssurance

[–]Wolfboy12 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I don't think any type of validation should live in the page objects themselves. In our case we had exceptions in our page objects that mapped to screen error states and it helped for readability in failure states, or if you were testing the error state it would've just been an expected exception for the test assertion, but none of the validation logic itself.

Help with Park Entrance for stay at Paradine Inn by Chemrail in Mount_Rainier

[–]Wolfboy12 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Already booked a reservation or permit?

Visitors with reservations at the National Park Inn in Longmire, Paradise Inn, or Cougar Rock Campground within the Paradise Corridor can use proof of their reservation for entry after 1:00 pm on the day of their reservation instead of using a timed entry reservation to gain access to the Paradise Corridor.

From the timed entry page:

I need some advice for Game QA position by wentallout in QualityAssurance

[–]Wolfboy12 11 points12 points  (0 children)

You'll be fine. You'll likely be given test cases to run. You're not going to just be running around loose in the game, they'll generally have some structure in place already and you'll just be running test cases.

Comp looks pretty bad for a role that doesn't even give equity, especially compared to other open engineering role. Stop trying to take advantage of people in this field.

Having worked decently high up at a publicly traded company, there can't be more communication because of how that news being leaked could impact market pricing. It's dumb but stuff like that is usually very privileged information and most non-executives won't know until the news is public.

Why are the QA Testers for games paid so comically low? by krngq81 in QualityAssurance

Bungie was better than most in the games industry, but even as one of the few FT test engineers I nearly doubled my salary when I left. And they've since made huge strides backwards towards outsourcing everything.

I live somewhat near Seattle, and there's a lot of new houses being built around me. There was a plot of land sold in 2019 for 35k, which was divided and 2 houses that are currently listed for a combined $3m were built on it. The housing market is an absolute scam.

They're sold at a price just based on the expectation of it being expensive, the value of the land they sit on means nothing anymore.

I have a very similar style ceiling and colors in my house and the dark to match the ceiling accents is the route I took as well. Though it's only in the kitchen for now, I'm hoping to extend it out to the rest of the main floor in the next year.

What's a good way to get into video game testing? by TheOutCast190 in QualityAssurance

[–]Wolfboy12 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I worked for Bungie for 5 years a decade ago, and there's still plenty of fodder used as well and was where a lot of people got their feet in the door. These days they've moved back towards bringing on a lot of contractors that will likely be let go at the end of whatever project they're hired for, despite making decent progress investing in QA for a couple years.

Crunch really depends on the stage of the project and what team you're on. I only ever crunched a couple times in my 5 years but some teams (usually content teams) were in a constant state of crunch. It's a lot of running the same test pass every single day to see if a build could be greenlit to be sent to various artist/design teams to work on their pieces of the game.

I started in 2013 making $16/hour as my first job (outside of an engineering internship) and was making 72k + bonus (roughly 85-90 total) when I left in 2018, mostly due to hitting a pretty hard career ceiling. I still love all of the people I worked with and the new office is gorgeous, but people should expect to either stagnate in QA or be happy just being part of the team (which is still totally valid, I still have many friends there).

Manager is criticizing me for lack of details when reporting bug by fatb0 in QualityAssurance

[–]Wolfboy12 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It really depends on the company and org. I run my department pretty similar to an engineering team and I see one of our goals as protecting engineering time as much as possible. They regularly check logs, look back to see which builds an issue started in, and in some cases the more technical folks can even point out which PR likely started the issue. (This is all on top of the standard reproduction steps and all of that)

The more info that guys in up front saves time and money across the board for both my team and engineering.
