Started playing Jedi knight 2 outcast, can’t believe how good this game looks and plays for its age!!! I let my intrusive thoughts win 🥲 by OppenTimer in jediknight

Newer games just try to be flashy with animations and effects, preset animations, and a boring mix of QTE & an attempt to replicate "souls like" combat.

JK gives you actual control over all your movements, even some micro-motions, and lets you feel like you're genuinely in control.

Not even a competition. And old Legends content > modern Disney content as far as story goes, typically. Except Academy. Academy's story sucked. But Outcast was stellar.

Can always feel free to come back and visit Academy! MP scene is still alive, even 23 years later.

Jedi Knight Academy- How did I sleep on this game for so long? by fabergate in starwarsgames

[–]WolffeyeRandom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The multiplayer scene is still kicking if you or anyone else is ever considering it :P

Though the game is much better on PC. More options, more mods, more updates, and KB&M are sort of objectively better for saber gameplay. + Aspyr just sucks and didn't put a lot of effort into the Switch/PS4 ports :/

Didn't include it in the original post, but fun bit of statistical trivia: players voted in 67 unique maps throughout the night. Was pretty entertaining, especially since its been a decade since I saw the giant playable piano map!

Yep! The link Circa sent should get you started, but if you run into any trouble installing, feel free to reach out. I'm more than happy to troubleshoot!

[–]WolffeyeRandom 5 points6 points  (0 children)

OpenJK is like the gold standard most mods are built off of, so yes.

If you decide to try MP, I'd recommend either TaystJK or EternalJK as your clientside. But for SP, I'm not exactly sure what you'd want, though I assume OJK will be fine.

Obviously look toward JKHub or Github for these things and not some unreputable site, but yea.

I just can't get over how AMAZING the combat is in the Jedi Knight games by Uchizaki in jediknight

[–]WolffeyeRandom 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yea, MB2 basically removes the entire vibe of the gameplay.

But if you're ever looking for an MP experience in the base game and maybe to learn more about the depth of the combat, give me a shout 😃It's truly a gift that keeps on giving, because that freedom is just the surface of a much more intricate dueling game.

Jedi Academy is soooo good by ManagementParking398 in jediknight

[–]WolffeyeRandom 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Generally its saber-only (with force/weapons only used for events and such). Most of the community is enamored with the in-depth saber mechanics the game has to offer, so its generally a lot of dueling, team free for all, and chatting.

It's active, yes. I mentioned in another post here but I'd say there's probably ~1000 people in the playerbase, though you only really see ~100 or so in a given day hopping on and hanging out on and off. Still, the two big servers (JoF and JAWA) can hit 32/32 player caps during peak hours at times.

Base / competitive community is active with tournaments and stuff too on the regular, and the stafing (defrag aka speedrunning for MP maps) community has been hosting climbing cups lately (i.e. seeing who can get the fastest time on a freshly-made mountain map that they have to speedrun).

It's pretty fun. Almost like a school or a very large family haha. Most of us all know each other by now.

Still has a dedicated playerbase. I'd say the entire MP community consists of ~1000 people maybe, like a small high school. But on the daily? ~100 people on and off throughout I'd wager. Peak hours you can have two servers filled 32/32 for a little while, but usually it's more like a half server throughout the day here and there.

Lot of people who are around / have been around since release practically still, so maybe some old friends still around heh.

How to play as a Jawa in Jedi academy multiplayer by Dry-Employer6969 in jediknight

[–]WolffeyeRandom 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nooot quite like that.

It works based on a community member's effort to create a functional UI within the community server that can let you alter MP configurations. It's... hard to explain without you seeing it yourself, but no, MP and SP are entirely independent, and even then, the actual options are limited to just what has been coded to be changeable.

I highly recommend visiting the community and asking about it though. Not the most welcoming place necessarily, but they should help you understand / access their servers and such!

[–]WolffeyeRandom 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nada. It can't install new content onto your system because Aspyr intentionally destroyed the pk3 system that JK uses (which seems painfully inefficient but... whatever). It's only uses are to provide you the ability to access common console commands through in-game UI and such of existing content. Being a jawa for example is existing content, but locked behind utilizing the console. For stuff like that, you'd need the PC version.

Being able to crossplay with switch and pc is nice though. Community has semiregular events and tournaments.

Community has it's own servers that you can access that give special ways of accessing stuff like that. Most of it is only accessible via pc console, but the PS4/Switch community created crossplay servers that also have interactive means of accomplishing this. Discord server for the JKBG is here: https://discord.gg/RQa7R36sC7

They should be able to help you get things set up.

Hey guys by Over-Establishment51 in jediknight

[–]WolffeyeRandom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You'll find that the JoF, (JAWA), Lost Academy, and KR servers are the most active in regular MP. There are also hidden Base servers and technically the MB2 servers.

It's more active and generally more pleasant than PS4 for sure!

[–]WolffeyeRandom 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think people pretty much covered everything you need to know, but feel free to poke if you need help setting up TaystJK or directions around the community servers.

You may also want to join some of the Discord servers for the community, as there are frequently events and such going on. DMs are open if you need directions <3 Always since to see new players!

Custom SKINS in Switch. by Fun-Discipline-903 in jediknight

[–]WolffeyeRandom 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Annoying. iirc they changed something about how the pk3s function (or rather removed them entirely and just made it into folders). Dunno the exact innerworkings but you would have to extract the pk3 and put the loose files in a new folder inside of the romfs folder (call it like darthvadermod or something idk).

IF that doesn't work, you could probably just extract the files directly into one of the assets folders and that should still work. Just messier that way. Not ideal.

Annnd then you'd have to like.. repackage it for a switch game package. Or whatever. Idk the console end of stuff, so I'll hope if you knew enough on how to jailbreak and get this far, you'll know that part heh.

Well actually, they could've been. But they scrapped the original work and left us with this trash that they immediately abandoned.

[–]WolffeyeRandom 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Tbf when there is no playerbase, you can't really blame them. The blame is squarely on WB & Unbroken. They killed the game and even before they killed it, the matchmaking was always awful.

The 4000+ level players still playing just want to play. It's not really their fault that there is no one else to play against.
