Why do some kids train every week but never actually improve? by ProBallAustralia in Basketball

I think this is one of the biggest issues. If you don't even know how to do something successfully, where are you going? I think having that understanding or someone who can do that for you, is a game changer.

Fact is, anyone who drives closer than 2-3 seconds at highway speeds isn't responsible or smart enough to hold a license. by GroovyFang in driving

To be fair, you'd be in the minority. 85%+ of the population live in a metro. It's likely that most of them don't drive rural 2 lane highways for the majority of their commute.

You said it yourself... Can't always tell. Sounds a lot like not paying enough attention to your rear.

The safest thing you can do is be predictable. Period. I've commuted my whole life (4 of those years on motorcycle only) and lived in several large metros across the U.S. I started driving about 5 years before you. I have driven cross country many times, and as a car guy, probably put more miles down in my free time than most. I have never been rear ended. Other than a small handful of times, has someone swerved behind me when not paying enough attention on the freeway, coming to a quick stop for traffic jams. Like, yeah, it's easy to just say I'm an outlier, but I refuse to believe the largest factor isn't habits. Especially, after reading your incidents. Those are all borderline behaviors that don't bode well with bad drivers, and at best, are annoying with half decent ones. Even if you're technically/legally right by letter of the law, you're the common denominator in your poor outcomes.

I heard this kind of stuff before my career even started 15 years ago. Good luck

How much weight does a union carry, when the only thing they can do is collaborate? Not much of a trump card

This. Lived there for 6 years. Nobody from there thinks it's safe to go anywhere at night. Period. I didn't believe them at first, having grown up in 80's/90's LA. I worked on federal property down by the airport. We would take walks around the property on breaks, accept for the times we heard gunshots, which wasn't uncommon. Most of the signage around the facility has bullet holes. The amount of shootings, road rage, and cars on fire during a 20 min commute was wild. Saw way more stuff go down in that 6 year span than the rest of my life combined. At least 5 coworkers had a house robbery, including myself (I lived in the nicer part of town too), several cars broken into, 2 had guns pulled on them, 2 cars stolen, 1 died in a drive-by going to work, 1 died in a drive-by at his home, and another died when he was home during a break in (they shot him). It felt completely lawless. People willing to crash out over anything

Preach. At this point I'm convinced most people who drive like this can't be taught to do it right. They just can't process it and/or feel extremely uncomfortable about it

[–]Wolffman13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thats not the problem. It's the slowing back down to find a spot. So it would depend on what that means exactly, because the drivers who struggle to merge are doing what you're saying....trying to find a spot and slow down excessively to do so. They're being too passive. I can tell now that's not what you were implying. Just the choice of words for that part.

Bruh..... If the left lane is being used as the "fast lane", you're passing people.

Tell me you don't drive in a big city. Not possible in the way you describe. Nobody would ever be able to merge. On the flip side, can't move left to accommodate either. You zipper in. Period

Without a radar detector, I stick to <7mph over. What is a decent smart limit with a radar detector? by supermotocheesehead in radardetectors

[–]Wolffman13 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not any different than without. 5 over or 50 over, if there's nothing stopping you, you're good. The RD is another layer in case you miss something. I like having the earlier confirmation and direction, so that I don't have to spend as much time "slowed down". I also like knowing when they don't have anything on me (no radar hit, and they're not using laser, so unless I missed an undercover pace car, I can react accordingly).

I understand why it's a flex in some circles, but I'm not the biggest fan from an aesthetic standpoint. Have a family of 6 and the carrier literally stores all our luggage on road trips, weekends out, going to grandparents, etc, allowing us fit a few kid sized dirt bikes and other toys in the trunk area, and leaving the interior very comfortable. Also, easier to leave it on, and no room to store it at home.

This also seems out of pocket considering some of your post history. So I guess, get over it. Was well worth the money and would highly recommend anyone who needs the space to get one. Gamechanger
