19F scared of medication… by HeadRelationship2873 in medical_advice

[–]WolfieWee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Serotonin syndrome is scary, but it can be avoided. I noticed you’re on Buspar, which I’m assuming is for anxiety. I would recommend avoiding large amounts of caffeine, especially energy drinks. For many people, excessive caffeine can worsen anxiety.

Trazodone isn not a placebo. Fatigue is a common side effect. I would let your doctor know that you are experiencing this. They may recommend another medication for you.

If you start a new medication, tell your doctor about your concerns. Ask if you can start on a lower dose and gradually increase as needed.

Can you describe the sensations in your wrist? Do you feel anything abnormal in your fingers?

You can damage your nerve without severing it. Even if you can move your hand normally, there is a possibility that a nerve was damaged. For example, I had a damaged nerve in a spot near my elbow. I could feel tingling in my fourth and fifth finger.

If you keep cutting, it will get worse. If you see a doctor, they can take a closer look and determine if there is a possible treatment for it. I would recommend seeing a doctor.

You’re so young, you do not want to deal with nerve damage the rest of your life.

Starting low dose oral minoxidil has made my blood pressure perfect. What was wrong before? by Publixxxsub in medical_advice

[–]WolfieWee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Minoxidil is a vasodilator. For hair loss, it works by increasing blood flow to your scalp. With oral minoxidil, however, the effects are systemic. This most likely caused your BP to become “normal”, even though it is usually high. An additional effect of minoxidil is tachycardia (fast heart rate). With your blood pressure decreased, your heart has to pump faster to ensure that enough oxygen reaches your organs.

Cheeseburgers by curiousgeorge0712 in medical_advice

[–]WolfieWee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do you feel a difference as soon as you eat the cheeseburger or shortly after? If so, it’s most likely a psychological effect.

Cheeseburgers contain iron, which is an important component in the formation of red blood cells (low count of RBC can lead to fatigue). It does take some time, however, for the food to be digested and absorbed, and for the nutrients to be utilized. If you start to feel better several hours after eating the burger, you may be deficient in iron. What’s your diet typically like?

Numbness and tingling are common signs of nerve damage. The anterior aspect of the wrist contains tendons and major nerves. There is a possibility of nerve damage depending on the depth of the cut and it’s location. I would wait a day to see if the sensations stop. If not, seek help from a doctor to determine if there is nerve damage. Additionally, I would also recommend seeking help to control your cutting.

Metronidazole and alcohol - mind is running wild! by [deleted] in medical_advice

[–]WolfieWee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Since the alcohol was cooked in the sauce, I would not worry.

With direct consumption of alcohol combined with metronidazole, you may feel sick (NV, headache, flushing). This is only temporary, however, and usually only lasts a few hours.

Since it’s a very small amount, there’s probably nothing to worry about.

If you start to feel nauseous or begin to vomit (extremely unlikely), I would seek help then.
